Telephone switch-on/switch-off characteristics, general
In vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony, the mobile phone must be switched on and off manually using the buttons on the mobile phone.
In vehicles with code (386) Comfort telephony the mobile phone is switched on automatically by a wake-up pulse when the audio equipment is switched on. The audio equipment transmits the wake-up pulse to the cradle via a direct line and the Bluetooth module. The mobile phone then receives power and is switched on. Where enabled on the mobile phone, the Personal Identification Number (PIN) prompt appears (not with "CDMA network" in the USA). The PIN prompt is displayed on the audio/COMAND display (A40/8) and the instrument cluster (A1).
The signals that are required for this are transmitted by the audio equipment via the Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display and via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster.
In vehicles without code (386) comfort telephony the PIN can only be entered on the mobile phone itself. Appropriate instructions can be found in the equipment manufacturer's operating instructions.
The following possibilities are available for PIN entry:
- PIN entry via the control buttons on the mobile phone
- PIN entry via the control buttons on the audio equipment (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- PIN entry via the audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- PIN entry via the voice control system (VCS) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer) (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
The control signals of the control buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally by the mobile phone.
The control signals of the control buttons on the audio equipment are processed internally and forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
The control signals of the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the telematics CAN (CAN A).
The audio equipment then forwards them to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
The voice signals from the VCS [SBS] are picked up by the hands-free system microphone (A67b1) and forwarded to the audio equipment via a direct line. The audio equipment then forwards them to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle
After checking and enabling (not with "CDMA network" in the USA), the mobile phone registers itself in the service provider's mobile telephone network via the following route:
- Cradle
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)
On vehicles with code (386) Comfort telephony and code (228) Stationary heater, the mobile phone registers itself via the following route:
- Cradle
- Direct line and antenna amplifier/cellular telephone system compensator (A28/3)
- Direct line and mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53)
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna
On vehicles without code (386) Comfort telephony, communication takes place between the audio equipment and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
As soon as the mobile phone has logged into the service provider's mobile telephone network, the name of the mobile telephone network (Economic Commission for Europe (ECE)) or the information text "Ready" (USA) appears on the audio/COMAND display. The corresponding mobile phone signals are received via the reverse route.
The signals that are required for displaying on the audio/COMAND display are provided via the following route:
- Mobile phone
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
- Audio unit
- LVDS line
