Mobile telephone system, general
The mobile phone system is a constituent of the audio system.
The following components are available for operating the mobile phone system:

- Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
The entries stored in the mobile phone can be imported into the phone book of the mobile phone system.
For a mobile phone that is not connected to the Japan adapter cable electrical connector (X39/46), the entries can only be stored in the phone book using the "Import Contacts" function if the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth (R) Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP). If this is not the case, the entries have to be transmitted using the "Receive Business Card(s)" function. Access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is read only.
The address data in the address book can also be managed. If an address book entry does not have telephone number, it does not appear in the telephone book.
The address book is not created temporarily. The entries in the address book and the phone book remain stored in the COMAND controller unit when the mobile phone is removed and can still be dialed. This is also the case if a different mobile phone is used.
The basic functions of the mobile phone system are called up by pressing the "TEL" function key on the COMAND controller unit. If the "TEL" base function is activated, the relevant basic screen appears in the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).

- Name of the currently connected mobile phone
- Field strength of the mobile telephone network
- Handset symbol
- Speller with characters for entering telephone numbers
- Application bar with corresponding main menus (top)

When dialing using the buttons on the mobile phone, the telephone call is carried out in "Private Mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private Mode" and "Private Mode" has been activated.
After a telephone call has been accepted or established in handsfree mode, you can switch to "Private mode" by activating "Private mode" via the mobile phone or the COMAND controller unit if the mobile phone supports "Private mode".

Control for call waiting, toggling (as of 1.6.2010)
If another call signal is received during a telephone call, this is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the audio unit over an LVDS line. The telephone call can now be accepted or rejected.
If the incoming call is accepted, it is activated in hands-free mode and the existing call is terminated.
As of 1.7.2011 the user has the option of toggling between two callers, presuming that the mobile phone connected to the audio equipment is a "Full Function Portable". While the user talks to one person on the line, the connection to the other is put on hold.
However, voice transmission is interrupted.
Pressing the "Hang up" control button on the mobile phone or the "Hang up" function key on the COMAND controller unit interrupts (places on hold) the call that is in progress and accepts the incoming call.

Additional Bluetooth(R) information
A mobile phone must be authorized before it can be used via the mobile phone system. To do this, press the "TEL" function key on the COMAND controller unit or call up the "Phone" menu in the application bar. Then call up the "Phone" submenu in the function bar. Then select "Bluetooth Phone List" and "Update". Several mobile phones can be authorized. Following the update, the authorized mobile phone can be selected from the list of phones that is displayed and registered.
The Bluetooth(R) function is enabled and disabled by selecting "System", "System Settings" and "Activate Bluetooth".
Using Bluetooth(R), it is possible to connect modern communication devices such as PDAs or laptops to the mobile phone system quickly and easily. Bluetooth(R) is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth(R) devices wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range. One advantage of Bluetooth(R), in addition to today's wide availability of Bluetooth(R) devices, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth(R) devices to a Bluetooth(R) network (ad-hoc network). The high data security (128-bit encoding) and the limited radius (approx. 10 m) of such a network is what makes the use of Bluetooth(R) in the vehicle interesting.
