Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND), switching on/off characteristic, general
The COMAND can be switched on or off as follows:
^ Automatic by switching circuit 15R on/off
^ Manually by pressing the "ON" button on the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
^ Automatic wake-up when reverse gear is engaged, with code (218) Reversing camera (as of 1.6.2010)
^ Automatic switch-off in the event of undervoltage
^ Switch-off characteristics (power-down mode) if destination is not reached (without code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation) or with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer)

Automatic by switching circuit 15R on/off
When circuit 15R is activated (turn transmitter key (A8/1) in electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) into position 1), the COMAND controller unit is switched on insofar as it was switched on before the transmitter key was last removed. The last active audio application is started and the corresponding basic menu is shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8). If the COMAND controller unit was switched off, a warning note with general information on use of the audio system is shown.

Manually by pressing the "ON" button on the COMAND controller unit
Pressing the "ON" button, enables the COMAND controller unit to be switched on or off even when the transmitter key has been removed. If it was switched on, all audio system functions are available for t = 30 min. Following this, the COMAND controller unit is automatically switched off.
When the transmitter key ("circuit 15C OFF") is removed, the COMAND controller unit switches off the audio system. In vehicles without code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer or code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation) the run-on time for the navigation system begins.

Automatic wake-up when reverse gear is engaged, with code (218) Reversing camera (as of 1.6.2010)
If the COMAND controller unit is switched off upon engaging the reverse gear, it is woken up and the picture captured by the reversing camera (B84/3) is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Automatic switch-off in the event of undervoltage
If the voltage of the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is too low, a corresponding warning message appears on the audio-/ COMAND display. This represents an engine starts request. If the engine is not started, an additional warning message appears after t = 3 min. If the engine fails to start within the next t = 10 s, the COMAND controller unit switches off the audio system.
If the on-board electrical system voltage starts to rise again, the COMAND controller unit is not automatically switched on again.
The COMAND controller unit can be manually switched on again.
The warning procedure then runs again, until the cause for the undervoltage is rectified.
If the status of the on-board electrical system is critical, the COMAND controller unit may also be switched off without warning.

Switch-off characteristics (power-down mode) if destination is not reached (without code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation) or with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer
If route guidance is activated and the destination is not reached (e.g. fueling stop), the navigation function remains activated for a max. of t = 120 min. After t > 120 min, a manual confirmation in the Navigation menu is required to continue the route.
