Voice connection between vehicle and service center, general
Regardless of the type of vehicle-related service initiated (e.g. MB- Info call), a voice connection is established to the Service Center.
After feedback by the Service Center with a special tone, an SMS is sent to the Service Center with the appropriate data (vehicle identification number (VIN) and vehicle model, etc.). Then the driver can speak to a service receptionist over the existing voice connection.

Function sequence for voice connection between vehicle and Service Center
The handsfree system microphone (A67b1) is used for voice commands; it is integrated into the inside rearview mirror (A67).
The signals from the handsfree system microphone are routed over a direct line to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
In the COMAND controller unit, the signals from the handsfree system microphone are only looped through and are forwarded to the communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit.
The communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit then transmits the handsfree system microphone signals to the Service Center. The communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals via the following route:
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)
In the event of a malfunction in the multifunction antenna (e.g. defective because of a rollover), the communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit automatically sends and receives the mobile phone signals via the emergency call system antenna (A2/52).
Voice output takes place exclusively via the center dashboard speaker (H4/27). This speaker is controlled by the emergency call system control unit over discrete lines.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the emergency call system control unit sends a "Mute" signal via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit, the speaker outputs of which are then muted.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the "Mute" signal is sent via a direct line to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) which then also mutes the speaker outputs.
Normally, the voice connection is deactivated by the Service Center or by the driver.
The handsfree system microphone comprises two microphones.
However, only one microphone is used for voice input.
The establishment of a voice connection to the Service Center is interrupted by the communication module integrated into the emergency call system control unit after several unsuccessful dialing attempts.
