Component Identification:






Location
The media interface control unit is located behind the glove box.

Task
The media interface control unit acts as a universal device connecting point for connecting portable terminals to the audio system.

In accordance with the vehicle equipment one of the following control units is installed, and is referred to in the text that follows as audio equipment:
- Radio (A2) (with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer)
- Radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer or code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio)
- COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer)

In this context, the media interface control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of signals
^ Transmitting signals

Reading in of signals
Signals are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct lines
^ Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

Direct lines
The following signals are read in via direct lines:
- Audio signals and data via the media interface electrical connector (X18/70) and the "Mitsumi CAM62" connector
- Electronic wake-up for MOST

MOST
The following signals are read in via MOST:
- Control and operating signals from the audio equipment

Transmitting signals
The signals are transmitted via the following connections:
^ Direct lines
^ MOST

Direct line
The media interface control unit transmits control and operating signals to the connected portable terminal via the media interface connector and the "Mitsumi CAM62" connector.

MOST
The media interface control unit transmits control and operating signals via MOST to the audio equipment.
