GF82.90-P-2003FL Rear Entertainment Disk Applications, Function
- with CODE (864) Rear entertainment system

Function requirements
^ Circuit 30g and active telematics CAN (CAN A) (a vehicle door is opened) for t = 10 min

General
The following video or audio sources are available in the "Disc" menu item:
- Video DVD
- Audio CD or DVD
- MP3-CD or DVD

The video or audio source is automatically detected.
The switched-on left rear display (A40/5) or right rear display (A40/6) shows the video or audio source in the "Disc" menu item.

The "Disc" menu item is only active when the display is switched on. It is necessary to select the respective display using the "Roller" control on the remote control when the "DISK" menu item is operated via the remote control.

The "Rear entertainment disk applications" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Video DVD playback function sequence
^ Audio CD or DVD playback function sequence
^ MP3-CD or DVD playback function sequence
^ Transmission of audio and picture signals function sequence

Video DVD playback function sequence
The DVD drive integrated into the DVD player decodes the digital data of the inserted video DVD and forwards these internally to the DVD player. The DVD player generates the analog audio and picture signals for the user interface of the "Disc" menu item on the respective display based on the digital data from the video DVD. The display shows the menus and the submenus in the "Disc" menu item (see operating instructions).
Selection of extra operations or settings can now be made using the listed controls on the remote control (see operating instructions).
The remote control signals are sent over the remote control's infrared (IR) interfaces and the respective display.

Audio CD or DVD playback function sequence
The DVD drive integrated into the DVD player decodes the digital data of the inserted audio CD or DVD and forwards these internally to the DVD player.
The DVD player generates the analog audio and picture signals for the user interface of the "Disc" menu item based on the digital data from the audio CD or DVD.
The display shows the menus and the submenus in the "Disc" menu item (see operating instructions).
Selection of extra operations or settings can now be made using the listed controls on the remote control (see operating instructions).
The remote control signals are sent over the remote control's infrared (IR) interfaces and the respective display.

MP3-CD or DVD playback function sequence
The DVD drive integrated into the DVD player decodes the digital data of the inserted MP3-CD or DVD and forwards these internally to the DVD player.
The DVD player generates the analog audio and picture signals for the user interface of the "Disc" menu item based on the digital data from the MP3-CD or DVD.
The display shows the menus and the submenus in the "Disc" menu item (see operating instructions).
Selection of extra operations or settings can now be made using the listed controls on the remote control (see operating instructions).
The remote control signals are sent over the remote control's infrared (IR) interfaces and the respective display.

Transmission of audio and picture signals function sequence
The DVD player sends analog picture signals to the respective display via a (Y-brightness (luminance)/C-color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line. The display uses them to generate digital picture signals for picture display. Upon reception of the analog audio signals from the DVD player via the stereo line, the respective display generates the digital audio signals.
Up to 31.5.2010, the digital audio signals are transmitted via the IR interface of the respective display to the IR interface of the corresponding headphones (cordless).
As of 1.6.2010, the digital audio signals are transmitted via the two-way radio interface of the respective display to the two-way radio interface of the corresponding headphones (cordless).

Volume can only be adjusted using the volume control integrated in the headphones.

A headphones socket is integrated into each display, to which headphones can be directly connected (cable).
The volume is adjusted using the "VOL +" and "VOL -" controls on the remote control. Additionally, the volume can be set via the volume control of the particular headphones. The signals from the "VOL +" and "VOL -" controls on the remote control are transferred through IR interfaces on the remote control and the respective display.

On vehicles with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, the analog audio signals are also transferred to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) by the DVD player via a stereo line. On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the activated COMAND controller unit transfers the audio signals via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) depending on the set volume.

From there, the audio signals are output at the following speakers via direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (with model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (with model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)

For the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or for the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal is routed from the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) using direct lines.

On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output directly by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)

The volume is adjusted at the COMAND controller unit via the following controls:
- Rotary actuator at the "ON" button on the COMAND controller unit
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- + and - button for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)

The control signals of the rotary actuator at the "ON" button of the COMAND controller unit are processed internally.
The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded via the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit.
The control signals from the + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control on the MFL are transferred to the COMAND controller unit via the following route:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
