Y58/4 Activated charcoal filter shutoff valve

Task
- Temporary storage of fuel vapors for subsequent regeneration
- Ventilation and purging of fuel tank

Design
The activated charcoal filter consists of a plastic housing filled with activated charcoal granulates.
The activated charcoal filter is divided into various chambers by partitions to achieve an optimal flow of the activated charcoal granulates.

For USA version
The fuel filter which can be closed by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) via the activated charcoal filter shutoff valve (Y58/4), has a substantially larger volume.

Function
- Fuel vapors released from the fuel tanks are combined with the activated charcoal granulates
- The ventilation of the fuel tank (under vacuum) and the venting of the fuel tank (at excess pressure) take place through the activated charcoal filter

When regeneration is activated, the fuel vapors are drawn in by the engine and combusted.
The activated charcoal granulates are completely regenerated in the ideal case.

For USA version
Fuel vapors that have collected at the time of refueling are also combined with the activated charcoal granulates.
