GF82.10-P-3060CE Standing/Parking Lights Actuation, Function
MODEL 204.0 /2 as of model year 2009 /YoM 08
MODEL 204.3
MODEL 204.9
Function requirements, general
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage (operating voltage range U greater than or equal to 7 less than or equal to 17.5 V)
Standing/parking lights, general
The standing/parking lights actuation serves to mark the parked vehicle in darkness.
In model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11 and model 204.3 with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination or code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic), light-emitting diodes (LED) are used for the parking, standing and turn signal light functions.
To output the left parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) actuates the left front standing light and parking light (E1e3) and the left front turn signal light (E1e5) in the left front lamp unit (E1) over the left LED; signaling lights actuation module (E1n7).
To output the right parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit actuates the right front standing light and parking light (E2e3) and the right front turn signal light (E2e5) in the right front lamp unit (E2) over the right LED, signaling lights actuation module (E2n7).
The LED, signaling lights actuation modules actuate the supply voltages for the LEDs.
The standing/parking lights actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for standing lights actuation
^ Function sequence for lights on reminder
^ Function sequence for parking lights actuation
Function sequence for standing lights actuation
Turning the exterior lights switch (S1) to the standing lights position requests actuation of the standing lights.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch for vehicles up to 31.5.10 over the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and for vehicles as of 1.6.10 directly (voltage-coded), and sends the "Standing lights On" request over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) as well as for vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch also to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:
- Left front headlamp unit
- Left front standing light and parking light
- Left front standing light 2 (E1e12) (in model 204.0/2 up to /28.2.11)
- Right front headlamp unit
- Right front standing light and parking light
- Right front standing light 2 (E2e12) (in model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11)
- Additional with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version:
- Left front side marker lamp (E1e6) (model 204.9)
- Right front side marker lamp (E2e6) (model 204.9)
- Left front side marker lamp (E6/1) (model 204.0/2/3)
- Right front side marker lamp (E6/2) (model 204.0/2/3)
The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:
- Left rear lamp unit (E3)
- Left rear fog light (E3e5) (pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left brake light, taillight and parking light (E3e9)
- Inner left brake light and taillight (E3e10) (in model 204.0/2/3)
- Left rear side marker lamp (E6/3) (in model 204.0/2/3)
- Right rear lamp unit (E4)
- Right rear fog light (E4e5) (pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Right brake light, taillight and parking light (E4e9)
- Inner right brake light and taillight (E4e10) (in model 204.0/2/3)
- Right rear side marker lamp (E6/4) (in model 204.0/2/3)
- Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
- Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
- Additional with model 204.9 with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version
- Left rear side marker lamp
- Right rear side marker lamp
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the following components via the trailer socket (X58):
- Trailer taillights
- Trailer license plate lamp
The active standing lights actuation is indicated visually to the driver.
In vehicles up to 31.5.09 the front SAM control unit actuates the standing light indicator lamp (S1e3) in the exterior lights switch over the instrument panel LIN.
On vehicles as of 1.6.09, the front SAM control unit sends the status "Standing light actuation active" to the instrument cluster (A1) via the interior CAN, which then switches on the instrument scale illumination.
Additional function requirements for lights on reminder
^ Standing lights ON
^ Driver door OPEN
^ Circuit 15C OFF
Function sequence for lights on reminder
The logic for requesting the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.
The left front door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door and the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN.
The instrument cluster receives the request and activates the warning buzzer (A1h1).
The "Switch off lights!" message appears in the instrument cluster's travel distance display (A1p7) (model 204.0/2/3/9/ (except 204.077/277/377) without code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel) or in the multifunction display (A1p13) (with code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel, model 204.077/277/377).
The standing lights may be on due to the low beams having been manually switched on, due to the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, or they can be switched on manually via the exterior lights switch. If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams, auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, and the driver door is opened at circuit 15C ON, the standing lights are switched off.
If with active rear fog light actuation, circuit 15C is switched off and the driver door is then opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer and shows a corresponding message on the travel distance indicator or the multifunction display.
Function sequence for parking lights actuation
By turning the exterior lights switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch and transmits the request via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and, if necessary, to the trailer recognition control unit.
Left parking light:
The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:
- Left front headlamp unit
- Left front standing light and parking light
- Left front standing light 2 (up to 28.2.11 in model 204.0/2 with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
The rear SAM control unit actuates the left brake light, taillight and parking light.
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the left taillight on the trailer.
Right parking light:
The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:
- Right front headlamp unit
- Right front standing light and parking light
- Right front standing light 2 (up to 28.2.11 in model 204.0/2 with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
The rear SAM control unit actuates the right brake light, taillight and parking light.
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the right taillight on the trailer.
If, in model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 the interior CAN is in "bus idle", the parking lights actuation is stored in the rear SAM control unit and the trailer recognition control unit until a deactivation is requested by the front SAM control unit, even when the on-board electrical system voltage then collapses as a consequence and the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is completely discharged.
In model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11, model 204.3 the standing, parking lights are switched off, when the on-board electrical system management determines that the engine's starting capability is impaired because the on-board electrical system battery has been discharged.
