GF54.30-P-0002CE Instrument Cluster (IC), Function
Instrument cluster (A1), general
The instrument cluster notifies the driver of all dynamic and static driving conditions as well as about the current condition of the systems installed in the vehicle.
In the event of any faulty or safety-relevant vehicle functions, various warnings are displayed on the instrument cluster.
The following displays are incorporated into the instrument cluster in order to be able to convey information to the driver:
- Permanent displays (e.g. vehicle speed, rotational speed, tank contents)
- Indicator lamps (green, yellow or blue) (e.g. turn signals, high beams)
- Warning lamps (red) (e.g. coolant level, brake fluid level)
- Travel distance display (A1p7) (model 204.0/2/9 (except 204.077/277) without code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel)
- multifunction display (A1p13) (with code (442) comfort multifunction steering wheel, model 204.077/277)
The instrument cluster makes the following functions possible:
^ Activate instrument cluster function sequence
^ Function sequence for indicator lamp test
The following functions are also possible; they are described in separate documents:
^ control/warning messages, function
^ Display operating conditions, function
^ Comfort displays, function
^ Trip computer, function
^ Settings on workshop level, function
Activate instrument cluster function sequence
For the following events the background illumination for the travel distance indicator or the multifunction display in the instrument cluster are activated:
- Open or close driver door
- Change the status of the "Transmitter key (A8/1) inserted"
- New fault entry with the attribute "Wake display"
- Operation of the button group of the left multi function steering wheel (S110) when transmitter key is inserted
The scale illumination is also activated by the instrument cluster under the following conditions:
- Standing lamps ON
- Unlock the vehicle using transmitter key with activated locator lighting
After switching off circuit 15R, the instrument cluster remains active for t = 30 s. If a fault exists this time is increased to t = 120 s.
Additional function requirements for indicator lamp test
^ Circuit 15 ON
Indicator lamp test function sequence
The indicator lamp test serves the function test of certain warning lamps and indicator lamps in the instrument cluster.
The IC carries out the indicator lamp test automatically when circuit 15 is switched on. The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) provides the circuit status of circuit 15 on the chassis CAN (CAN E).
The function of the following warning and indicator lamps is checked during the indicator lamp test:
- Fuel reserve warning light (A1e4)
- Brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7)
- Seat belt warning lamp (A1e9)
- Supplemental restraint system indicator lamp (A1e15)
- Preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) (on diesel engine)
- Antilock brake system indicator lamp (A1e17)
- ESP Indicator lamp OFF (A1e30) (model 204.077/277)
- Electronic Stability Program warning lamp (A1e41)
- Coolant temperature warning lamp (A1e54)
- Engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58)
- Tire pressure monitor warning lamp (A1e66) (with code (470) Tire pressure monitor (base) or with code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Premium))
The indicator lamp test terminates when the engine is started (circuit 61 ON).
The following indicator lamps are not tested:
- Left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1)
- Right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2)
- High beam indicator lamp (A1e3)
- Rear fog light indicator lamp (A1e18) (as of 1.6.09)
- Front fog lamp indicator lamp (A1e57) (as of 1.6.09)
- Low beam indicator lamp (A1e67)
