Location
The satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit is located in the trunk on the equipment bridge in front of the spare wheel well.

Task
The Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR) control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reception of signals
^ Amplifying and decoding signals
^ Transmission of signals

Receive signals
The signals are read in via a direct line:
- Wake-up signal
- Satellite signals and terrestrial signals via the multifunction antenna (A28/11)

Amplifying and decoding signals
The satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit decodes and amplifies S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial signals in Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) signals.

Transmission of signals
The signals are transmitted via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ media-oriented system transport (MOST)

Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (power supply to antenna, phantom supply via antenna input)

MOST
- Audio signals to sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- SDAR status, program-related information (artist, track name and the like) and music category (ROCK, NEWS and the like) to the radio (A2) (with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio or code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer) or the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or code (528) COMAND with DVD changer)
- As of 1.6.10: Real Time Traffic Data (RTTD) to the navigation processor of the COMAND controller unit (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
