The navigation module (A2/30) is also called "Becker MapPilot". The function and menu guidance are provided by the manufacturer and are not specific for Mercedes-Benz. Detailed operating instructions in PDF-format for viewing on PC are available in the manufacture's content manager software or from the inside site www.beckermappilot.com. Brief instructions from the manufacturer can be found in the packaging of the navigation module.

Function requirements, general
- Circuit 30g ON
- The navigation module is inserted into the navigation module cradle (A2/30-1)
- Signals from at least three Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites present
- Radio (A2) is switched on

The navigation system can be restarted with the RESET button the navigation module or by momentarily removing the navigation module from the holder.

The navigation module is supported by the following vehicle components:
- The "Navi" button on the radio (A2) activates the menu
- Operation via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Operation via the audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) and the audio/COMAND display (A40/8)
- Voice control of navigation functions is possible via the button groups on the multifunction steering wheel or via the navigation menu item, voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone (A67b1), the signals are relayed from the radio to the navigation module via an analogue audio channel
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC), received via rear window FM antenna amplifier (A2/19) and FM/TMC splitter (A2/98)
- Audio output via vehicle speaker including audio reduction, adjustable in radio system menu.
- The image output and map depiction on the audio/COMAND display as well as on the instrument cluster (A1); view and menu display are generated in navigation module, not in the radio.
- Global Positioning System (GPS) signals directly from multifunction antenna (A28/11)
- The interface software to the vehicle is flashable using Daimler processes, navigation software only with internet compatible PC (with content manager software).

The navigation module is inserted into the cradle of the navigation module. A pin (slider) is also required for unlocking, which can be ordered from Mercedes-Benz Accessories as a replacement part.

The navigation module has a removable battery which can also be purchased from Mercedes-Benz Accessories as a replacement part.

Theft protection
A theft protection facility can be called up from the menu. The navigation module can be coupled to the vehicle (to the vehicle identification number (VIN)) by entering a freely selectable Personal Identification Number (PIN). The navigation module then functions only in this vehicle. The theft protection is disabled in the same menu by entering the PIN.

Software update
The navigation software and the map data can only be updated by the customer via the manufacturer's Internet portal. A Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection on the navigation module is used to access the Internet via the content management software of the manufacturer.

Map data can be updated via Mercedes-Benz Accessories using a Secure Digital (SD) card slot in the navigation module.
