Antitheft alarm system (ATA), general
After locking the vehicle the antitheft alarm system (ATA) monitors all relevant inputs with the central locking (CL) for its non-actuated state. If a change of status is detected at one of the monitored inputs, an acoustic and visual alarm is given.
The acoustic alarm signals are output up to 31.5.10 and as of 1.6.10 without code (494) USA version via the alarm siren (H3/1) and as of 1.6.10 with code (494) USA version via the left horn (H2) and right horn (H2/1). The visual alarm signals are output by the exterior lights. In addition the interior illumination is switched on.

The rear SAM control unit with rear fuse and relay module (N10/2) has the master function for the ATA.

The ATA, when armed, monitors:
- Doors
- Trunk lid (model 204.0)
- Liftgate (model 204.2/9)
- Engine hood
- Alarm siren
- Position change of vehicle (tow-away protection) (without code (494) USA version, without code (460) Canada
- Motion in interior compartment (interior protection) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA))
- Rear side window and rear window (model 204.2/9 with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA))
