Power flow in reverse gear, transmission mode "C", general
Via the drive shaft (1) involving the center planetary gear set and the rear planetary gear set the torque coming from the torque converter is increased and transmitted in the opposite direction of rotation to the transmission output shaft (5).
The following multidisk brakes, freewheels and multidisk clutches are not engaged:
- Multidisk brake B1 (21)
- Multidisk brake B2 (22)
- Overrunning clutch F1 (27)
- Overrunning clutch F2 (28)
- Multidisk clutch K2 (25)
In reverse gear with transmission mode "C", the power flows through the following gear sets:
^ Front planetary
^ Rear planetary gear set
^ Center planetary gear set
Front planetary
The planet carrier (29/3) and sun gear (29/1) are rigidly connected to each other via the engaged multidisk clutch K1 (24). The planetary gear set is thus locked and turns due to the mechanical connection of the ring gear (29/4) and drive shaft (1) at transmission input speed as a closed unit.
Rear planetary gear set
The planet carrier is held at the housing by the engaged multidisk brake B3 (23) (31/3). The ring gear (31/4) turns for reason of the mechanical connection to the locked planetary gear set at transmission input speed. The planet gears (31/2) turn between the ring gear (31/4) and the sun gear (31/1). Due to the held planet carrier (31/3) a direction reversal takes place so that the sun gear (31/1) turns in the opposite direction to the direction of engine rotation.
Center planetary gear set
The ring gear (30/4) is held via the mechanical connection to the planet carrier (31/3) of the multi-disk brake B3 (23) on the housing
The sun gear (30/1) turns backwards due to the engaged multidisk clutch K3 (26). The planetary gears (30/2) roll on the fixed sun gear (30/4) and take care of a torque increase when the power is transmitted from the ring gear (30/1) to the planet carrier (30/3). 30/3 transmission output shaft (5) connected to the planet carrier turns at reduced speed opposite to the direction of engine rotation.
