Component Identification:

Location
The front left level sensor is fitted on the left transverse control arm of the front axle, the left rear level sensor is fitted on the left camber strut of the rear axle.

For vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) a right front level sensor (B22/9) has been installed on the right transverse control arm of the front axle and a right rear level sensor (B22/10) on the right camber strut of the rear axle.

Task
The level sensors generate voltage signals which change in proportion to the vehicle level. The signals are used for the automatic headlight range adjustment and for vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) for control of the suspension dampening.

The signals of the level sensors on vehicles without code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) read in and evaluated by the xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1) and for vehicles with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) by the ABC control unit (N51/2).
