GF91.60-P-2001RI Deploy Supplemental Restraint System, Function

GF91.60-P-2001RI Deploy Supplemental Restraint System, Function

General function requirements
^ Circuit 5R On

The status of circuit 15R is transmitted by the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) via interior CAN (CAN B).

Triggering supplemental restraint system (SRS), general
The SRS continuously monitors the occupancy status of the front passenger seat (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version) and the status of the front seat belts (fastened or not fastened). The SRS adapts its triggering behavior on the basis of this information.

The trigger SRS function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for detecting occupied status of front passenger seat
^ Function sequence for detecting status of seat belts
^ Impact detection function sequence
^ Frontal impact function sequence
^ Side impact function sequence
^ Rear end collision function sequence
^ Rollover function sequence

Function sequence for detecting occupied status of front passenger seat
The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) receives the corresponding information from the following components:
- Front passenger seat occupied and automatic child seat recognition (B48) (without code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- WSS (Weight Sensing System) control unit (N110) (with code (494) USA version)

Function sequence for detecting status of seat belts
The following switches are actuated by the belt latch inserted into the seat belt buckle:
- Left front seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Right front seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Left front seat belt buckle microswitch (S68/9) (with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Right front seat belt buckle microswitch (S68/10) (with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version) The status of the seat belt buckle switch is read in directly by the restraint systems control unit.

Impact detection function sequence
The restraint systems control unit determines the acceleration acting on the vehicle with the aid of its integrated sensor and the following sensors:
- Left sidebag sensor (A53) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Right sidebag sensor (A54) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
- Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)

With the aid of this sensor system, the SRS is able to distinguish between the following types of impacts:
- Head-on collision
- Side-on collision
- Rear end collision
- Roll-over

Frontal impact function sequence
A frontal impact is detected by the restraint systems control unit via the signals from the following components:
- Integrated sensor
- Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor
- Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor

The restraint equipment is deployed depending on the severity of the impact, the occupation of the front passenger seat, and the status of the seat belts.

The following squibs can be ignited (at most):
- Driver ETR [GUS] squib (R12/1)
- Passenger ETR squib (R12/2)
- Passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
- Passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
- Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (with code (494) USA version)

The following situations are taken into account:
- Occupied state of front passenger seat:
The restraint systems control unit uses the current occupancy to decide whether to suppress the front passenger airbag unit or to use one-stage or two-stage deployment.

- Driver seat belt buckle status:
If the left front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, then the driver airbag unit with advanced ignition timing is triggered instead of the driver emergency tensioning retractor unit.

- Front passenger belt buckle status:
If the right front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, then the front passenger airbag unit with advanced ignition timing is triggered instead of the front passenger emergency tensioning retractor unit.

However, this only applies if an occupied front passenger seat has been detected (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version). If not occupied then neither the emergency tensioning retractor nor the front passenger airbag unit are triggered.

Side impact function sequence
A side impact is detected by the restraint systems control unit via the signals from the following components:
- Integrated sensor
- Left sidebag sensor
- Right sidebag sensor

The activation of the restraint equipment takes place depending on the severity of the impact and occupation of the front passenger seat.

The following squibs can be ignited (at most):
- Driver ETR [GUS] squib
- Front passenger ETR [GUS] squib
- Left front sidebag squib (R12/20) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)
- Right front sidebag squib (R12/21) (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version)

The sidebags are designed as head/thorax bags and have a volume that is up to ten liters greater than conventional sidebags. They serve to replace the combination of windowbag and sidebag.

The following situations are taken into account:
- The restraint systems control unit decides on the basis of the current occupancy of the front passenger seat (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" without code (494) USA version) whether to trigger the front passenger sidebag unit.
- The restraint systems control unit uses the status of the seat belt buckles to decide about deploying the emergency tensioning retractors. If the belt latches are not inserted, the emergency tensioning retractors are not deployed.

Only the sidebag, facing the crash side is deployed. Only the emergency tensioning retractor, facing away from the crash side is deployed.

Rear end collision function sequence
A rear end collision is detected by the restraint systems control unit via the signals from the following components:
- Integrated sensor
- Left sidebag sensor
- Right sidebag sensor
- Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor
- Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor

The activation of the restraint equipment takes place depending on the severity of the impact and the status of the seat belts.
The following squibs can be ignited (at most):
- Driver ETR [GUS] squib
- Front passenger ETR [GUS] squib

The following situations are taken into account:
- Driver seat belt buckle status:
If the left front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, the driver emergency tensioning retractor unit is not activated.

- Front passenger belt buckle status:
If the right front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, the front passenger emergency tensioning retractor unit is not activated.

Rollover function sequence
A roll over is detected by the restraint systems control unit using the signals from the following components:
- Integrated sensor
- Left sidebag sensor
- Right sidebag sensor
- Driver-side frontal acceleration sensor
- Passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor

The following squibs can be ignited (at most):
- Left front sidebag squib
- Right front sidebag squib
- Driver ETR [GUS] squib
- Front passenger ETR [GUS] squib

The following situations are taken into account:
- Driver seat belt buckle status:
If the left front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, the driver emergency tensioning retractor unit is not activated.

- Front passenger belt buckle status:
If the right front seat belt buckle switch detects that a belt latch is not inserted into the belt buckle, the front passenger emergency tensioning retractor unit is not activated.

If a rollover occurs, the roll bar is triggered (not with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series"). The roll bar has its own sensors and is deployed independently of the restraint equipment.
