Phone system, accepting calls, rejecting calls and toggling, general
The user can set up a telephone connection for initiating, terminating or toggling a call to another person in the cellular telephone system or fixed-line network. The following components are available for operating the mobile phone system:
- Control buttons on the mobile phone
- Function keys and keypad on the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Group of buttons on right of multifunction steering wheel (S111)
- Voice control of the voice control system (VCS [SBS])
The mobile phone receives incoming calls via the following route:
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector
For a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth (R), the phone receives the call signal via mobile phone's own antenna.
Incoming calls are signaled acoustically at the speaker system and visually in the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) as well as in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
When the phone call signal sounds, the COMAND controller unit reduces the volume of the currently active audio source (e.g. for radio mode) by L = 15 dB. Only after the call has been accepted, the COMAND controller unit mutes (MUTE) the currently active audio source.
The COMAND controller unit actuates the Audio/COMAND display over the low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line.
The data required for displaying in the multifunction display are sent by the COMAND controller unit over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the instrument cluster.
The mobile phone display shows information on the caller, which is forwarded by the mobile phone to the COMAND controller unit via the following route:
- Adapter cable electrical connector
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
A mobile phone operated via Bluetooth (R) receives the call signal via the Bluetooth(R) mobile phone antenna. The call signal is then forwarded to the COMAND controller unit in the via the following route:
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Direct line
Telephone calls can be made in handsfree mode or "Private Mode". In handsfree mode, audio output takes place via the speaker system of the vehicle. The currently active audio source is muted (MUTE).
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the corresponding audio signals are output over the following speakers:
- Left door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Left door bass speaker (H4/1h2)
- Right door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Right door bass speaker (H4/2h2)
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system the COMAND control unit transmits the audio signals via media-oriented system transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), which amplifies and output them over the following speakers:
- Door tweeter
- Door bass speaker
- Rear tweeter
- Rear bass speaker
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
In "Private Mode" the user makes a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the telephone conversation. "Private Mode" is activated if the mobile phone is disconnected from the adapter cable electrical connector. The handsfree mode is deactivated.
The accept call and reject call function is made up of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for accepting call
^ Function sequence for toggling
^ Function sequence for rejecting call
