Component Identification:





Turn-in steering and check for correct seating of puller (01) on tie rod.

If the seat is incorrect the stainless steel ring of the tie rod will be damaged and thus the tie rod will be destroyed.

Pushing off
1 Unscrew self-locking nut from tie rod joint (5).
2 Mount pull-off tools (01, 02, 03) on steering knuckle (7) and tie rod ball joint (5).
Use puller (221 589 05 33 00) for model 204, 207, 212 to pry off the tie rod ball joint (5) with stainless-steel ring.
Use puller (221 589 00 33 00) for model 204, 212 to pry off the tie rod ball joint (5) without stainless-steel ring.
3 Pry off tie rod ball joint (5) with pull-off tools (01, 02, 03).
Do not damage rubber boot, as otherwise lubricant may leak from the tie rod joint (5).
Do not damage stainless-steel ring, as otherwise the sealing function is no longer given.
4 Remove pull-off tool (01, 02, 03).

Mount
5 Clean tapered connection.
Grease or oil must not be present at the cone and thread, as otherwise the tie rod joint (5) could work its way loose.
6 Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specified torque.
If necessary, counterhold tie rod ball joint (5) using Allen wrench.
