Seat Belt Control Module: Description and Operation

GF91.60-P-4068FL Component Description For The Supplemental Restraint System Control Unit

Component Identification:

Location
The supplemental restraint system control unit is located on the center tunnel.

Task
The supplemental restraint system control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Chassis CAN (CAN E) (with code (494) USA version)

Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read in via a direct line:
- Left sidebag sensor (A53)
- Right sidebag sensor (A54)
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1) (without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]) and without code (494) USA version)
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR (B48) (with code (U18) automatic child seat recognition (ACSR))
- Left frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
- Right frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)
- Left front door pressure sensor (B48/7)
- Right front door pressure sensor (B48/8)
- Left rear door pressure sensor (B48/9) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
- Right rear door pressure sensor (B48/10) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
- Left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/1) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Center front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/2) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/3) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Right engine hood contact switch (S62/42) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Left engine hood contact switch (S62/43) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Driver seat belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/3)
- Front passenger seat belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/4)

The status of the left rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/5) and of the right rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/6) as well as the center rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/14) is read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and provided on the chassis CAN for the supplemental restraint system control unit by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

Chassis CAN (with code (494) USA version)
The status of the seat occupied recognition is provided by the weight sensing system (WSS) control unit (N110) on the interior CAN (CAN B) and forwarded by the front SAM control unit on the chassis CAN.

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Chassis CAN

Direct line
The following components are actuated via a direct line:
- Pyrofuse 150 (F32f150)
- Driver ETR [GUS] squib (R12/1)
- Passenger ETR squib (R12/2)
- Front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
- Front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
- Left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/6)
- Right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/7)
- Driver sidebag squib (R12/9)
- Front passenger sidebag squib (R12/10)
- Left rear sidebag squib (R12/11) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
- Right rear sidebag squib (R12/12) (with code (293) Left and right rear sidebag)
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
- Left windowbag squib (R12/22)
- Right windowbag squib (R12/23)
- Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (with code (294) Kneebag)
- Driver pelvis airbag squib (R12/41) (with code (494) USA version)
- Passenger pelvis airbag squib (R12/42) (with code (494) USA version
- Driver seat NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/12)
- Front passenger seat NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/13)
- Left rear engine hood lifter (Y127/1) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Right rear engine hood lifter (Y127/2) (with code (U60) Pedestrian protection)
- Analog crash output to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (for gasoline engine) or to the CDI control unit (N3/9) (for diesel engine)

Chassis CAN
The signals are sent by the supplemental restraint system control unit via the chassis CAN.

The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
