Torque coordination, general
The torque interface in the CDI control unit (N3/9) coordinates and sets priorities (according to drivability and established priority scheme) for the requests of all systems that require engine torque. It also determines how dynamically each request is to be
The following systems and functions can request engine torque:
- The driver, through the accelerator pedal sensor (B37)
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP), via the chassis CAN (CAN E) from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS) or Electronic Stability Program Premium control unit (N30/7) (for code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Cruise control, through the Electronic Stability Program control unit
- DISTRONIC PLUS via radar sensor control unit (N62/1) (model 207.3/4 with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, model 212.0/2 up to 31.5.10 with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or code (234) Blind spot assist)
- DISTRONIC PLUS or active blind spot assist, via video and radar sensors (N62/2) (model 212.0/2 as of 01.06.10, model 204.0/2 as of 01.06.11, model 204.3, model 218.3 with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS, with code (237) Active blind spot assist, with code (238) active lane keeping assist)
- Fully integrated transmission control controller unit (Y3/8) (with code (427) 7-speed automatic transmission)
- Maximum engine speed limitation
- Maximum vehicle speed limit
- Maximum torque limitation
The Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) will be used as of 1.3.2011 (model 204.0/2) in 2 variants:
- Electronic Stability Program control unit, basis variant (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Electronic Stability Program control unit, Premium variant (except code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
Until 28.2.2011 (model 204.0/2) or 31.5.2011 (model 204.9) and as of 1.6.2011 (model 204.9) only the basic variant of the Electronic Stability Program control unit will be used.
Function sequence for torque coordination
Depending on the dynamics of the requests, the CDI control unit varies the engine torque by:
- Extending or shortening the injection time of the fuel injectors (Y76)
- Increasing or lowering the fuel pressure in the rails via the pressure regulating valve (Y74) and quantity control valve (Y94)
