Component Identification:






Location
The rear SAM control unit is located in the rear right of the luggage compartment.

Task
The rear SAM control unit supplies various systems via limit
switches and supplies control units with voltage depending on the
function sequence. In addition the rear SAM control unit has the
following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Control of functions
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
^ Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:
- Left rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/3s1)
- Right rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/4s1)
- Left fuel level indicator sensor (B4/1)
- Right fuel level indicator sensor (B4/2)
- Trunk lid rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) (model 212.0)
- Liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) (model 212.2) Interior protection button (N70s8) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA) and with code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
- Tow-away protection button (N70s9) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (for ATA [EDW] only) and code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
- Interior protection button (N70/3s8) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA) and without code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
- Tow-away protection button (N70/3s9) (with code (882) Interior monitoring (for ATA [EDW] only) without code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
- Engine hood antitheft alarm system switch (S62) (with code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))
- Left rear backrest inclination switch (S54/5) (model 212.0 with code (287) Through-loading feature, model 212.2)
- Right rear backrest inclination switch (S54/6) (model 212.0 with code (287) Through-loading feature, model 212.2)
- Left rear backrest lock switch (S54/7) (model 212.0 with code (287) Through-loading feature, model 212.2)
- Right rear backrest lock switch (S54/8) (model 212.0 with code (287) Through-loading feature, model 212.2)
- KEYLESS-GO trunk lid button (S62/21) (model 212.0 with code (889) Keyless Go)

- Right rear seat belt buckle switch (S68/6)

- Trunk lid contact switch (S88/6) (model 212.0 with code (887) Valet Parking)
- Trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8) (model 212.0)
- Liftgate external operation switch (S88/8) (model 212.2)
- Trunk lid emergency opening switch (S88/10) (model 212.0 without code (494) USA version)

LIN
The signals from the following components are read in via LIN:
- On-board electrical system LIN (LIN B7):
- Battery sensor (B95)

- Rear SAM LIN (LIN B4):
- Alarm siren (H3/1) (up to 31.5.10 with code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]), as of 1.6.10 with code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) and without code (494) USA version)
- Signals from interior protection and tow-away protection control unit (N26/6) (with code (882) interior monitoring (only with ATA))

Interior CAN
The signals are read in by the rear SAM control unit over the interior CAN. The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

- Battery state recognition
- Exterior lighting at rear of the vehicle
- Rear window defroster
- Central locking in rear area
- Heated seats (HS) (with code (873) front left and right heated seats)
- Electric seat ventilation (with code (401) Front comfort seats, incl. seat heating and ventilation)
- Electric rear window roller blind (model 212.0 with code (540) Electrical roller blind for rear window)
- Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) (with code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))
- Remote trunk closing (HDFS) (model 212.0 with code (881) Remote trunk closing (HDFS))
- Remote liftgate closing (model 212.2)

- Left luggage compartment lamp (E18/5)
- Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
- Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
- Center brake lamp (E21)
- Trunk lid ambient lamp (E40) (model 212.0)
- Ambient lamp and left liftgate warning lamp (E40/2) (model 212.2)
- Ambient lamp and right liftgate warning lamp (E40/3) (model 212.2)
- Trunk lid central locking motor (M14/7) (model 212.0)
- Liftgate central locking motor (M14/7) (model 212.2)
- Tank cap central locking motor (M14/10)
- Rear window roller sun blind motor (M24) (model 212.0 with code (540) Electrical roller blind for rear window)

- Seat adjustment motor for left rear head restraint(M53/1)
