GF82.10-P-3070FL Front Fog Light Actuation, Function
GF82.10-P-3070FL Front Fog Light Actuation, Function
MODEL 212.0/ 2
Function requirements for front fog light actuation, general
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage (operating voltage range U greater than or equal to 7 less than or equal to 17.5 V)
^ Standing lights ON (exterior lights switch (S1) in "Standing lights" position or "Manual driving lights" position), in vehicles with code (494) USA version only in "Manual driving lights" position"
^ Circuit 15 ON (when coded)
^ Exterior lights switch in "A" position (model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09)
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit 15 status to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) over the interior CAN (CAN B).
Front fog light actuation, general
Front fog light actuation provides better illumination of the road while driving as well as illuminating the rear of the vehicle under bad weather conditions.
During front fog light actuation standing/parking lights actuation is also active, which is described in a separate document.
The front fog light actuation consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (with code (498) Japan version up to 31.5.10 or without code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination and without code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination and without code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) and without code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
^ Function sequence, rear fog lamp actuation (model 212.0 up to 30.11.09 except 212.077, model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09 without code (460) Canada version and without code (494) USA version)
Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (with code (498) Japan version up to 31.5.10 or without code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination and without code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination and without code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) and without code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
Model 212.0 up to 30.11.09 except model 212.077:
Pulling out the exterior lights switch up to the first notch requests actuation of the front fog lamps.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1).
Model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09:
After pressing the front fog lamp switch (S1s11) on the exterior lights switch, the front fog lamp actuation is requested. The front SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the front fog lamp button.
The front SAM control unit then actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2).
The active front fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver. To do so, the front SAM control unit sends the "Front fog lamp indicator lamp On" request via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then actuates the front fog lamp indicator lamp (A1e57).
With code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version the front fog lamp and high beam actuation functions may not be executed simultaneously.
The last incoming request has priority.
Additional function requirements for rear fog lamp actuation (model 212.0 except 212.077 up to 30.11.09, model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09 without code (460) Canada version and without code (494) USA version)
^ Low beams On (with code (494) USA version)
Function sequence, rear fog lamp actuation (model 212.0 up to 30.11.09 except 212.077, model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09 without code (460) Canada version and without code (494) USA version)
Model 212.0 except 212.077 up to 30.11.09:
The rear fog light actuation is requested by pulling out the exterior lights switch to the first detent (vehicles without front fog lamp) or to the second detent (vehicles with front fog lamp).
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch via the instrument panel LIN and transmits this to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) (with code (550) Trailer hitch) over the interior CAN.
Model 212.077, 212.2 and model 212.0 as of 1.12.09 without code (460) Canada version and without code (494) USA version:
By pressing the rear fog light switch (S1s10), the rear fog light actuation is requested.
The front SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the rear fog light button and transmits this over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and to the trailer recognition control unit.
The rear SAM control unit then actuates the left rear fog light (E3/1e5) in the left rear inner lamp unit (E3/1) or the right rear fog light (E4/1e5) in the right rear inner lamp unit (E4/1) according to the national code.
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the rear fog light at the trailer via the trailer socket (X58) (with code (550) Trailer hitch).
The rear fog light on the vehicle is not actuated during trailer operation.
For this purpose, the trailer recognition control unit transmits a corresponding signal with the information "Operational rear fog lamp exists on trailer" via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit.
The active rear fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver.
To do so, the front SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp On" request via interior CAN to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp (A1e18).
If in model 212.0 up to 31.5.09 except model 212.077 with active rear fog light actuation, circuit 15C is switched off and the driver door is opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer (A1h1) and shows a corresponding message on the multifunction display (A1p13).
The request to deactivate rear fog light actuation via the exterior lights switch prevents the automatic actuation of the rear fog light the next time the vehicle is driven with the low beams switched on.
