Interior Light Switch: Description and Operation

GF82.20-P-2000FL Manual Interior Lights Control, Function

Function requirements for manual interior lights control, general
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage (operating voltage range U ≥7 ≤17.5V)

Manual interior lights control in general
The manual interior lights control permits the interior illumination, reading illumination, vanity mirror illumination as well as the glove compartment illumination to be switched on and off by operating the relevant switch. The respective components are actuated depending on the equipment installed.

A distinction is made between the following variants:
- Actuation via the non-networked overhead control panel electronics (N70/3) on vehicles without code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof
- Actuation via the networked overhead control panel control unit (N70) on vehicles with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof

The power supply of the overhead control panel electronics is provided by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1). When the switch is operated at the overhead control panel electronics, the voltage is switched through to the relevant component and the component is switched on or off.

The overhead control panel control unit is an interior CAN (CAN B) subscriber. The status of the switches is read in by the overhead control panel control unit and made available to the front SAM control unit on the interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit receives the relevant status and transmits the switch-on request via the interior CAN back to the overhead control panel control unit, which then outputs the requested function.

The manual interior lights control feature consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for interior illumination
^ Function sequence for reading illumination
^ Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination
^ Function sequence for glove compartment illumination

Function sequence for interior illumination
The following interior illumination components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches that are located on the housing of the overhead control panel electronics:
- Left front interior lamp (N70/3e4) and right front interior lamp (N70/3e5) via the front dome lamp switch (N70/3s4)
- Rear interior lamp (E15/3e3) via the rear dome lamp switch (N70/3s2)

The following interior illumination components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches that are located on the housing of the overhead control panel control unit:
- Left front interior lamp (N70e4) and right front interior lamp (N70e5) via the front dome lamp switch (N70s4)
- Rear interior lamp via the rear dome lamp switch (N70s2)

Furthermore, the front SAM control unit on vehicles with code (954) Avantgarde or code (955) Elegance actuates the following footwell illumination components at a brightness value that corresponds to 100%:
- Right front footwell lamp (E17/15)
- Left front footwell lamp (E17/16)
- Left rear footwell lamp (E17/17)
- Right rear footwell lamp (E17/18)

Function sequence for reading lamps
The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect on the driver.

The following reading lamp components can be switched on or off manually by operating the switches:
- Left reading lamp (A67e1) via the left front reading lamp switch (N70/3s6) (with overhead control panel electronics)
or
- Left reading lamp via the left front reading lamp switch (N70s6) (with overhead control panel control unit)
- Right reading lamp (A67e2) via the right front reading lamp switch (N70/3s7) (with overhead control panel electronics)
or
- Right reading lamp via the right front reading lamp switch (N70s7) (with overhead control panel control unit)
- Left rear reading lamp (E15/3e1) via the left rear reading lamp switch (E15/3s1)
- Right rear reading lamp (E15/3e2) via the right rear reading lamp switch (E15/3s2)

Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination
The following vanity mirror illumination components can be switched on or off manually by opening or closing the respective mirror cover:
- Left sun visor mirror lamp (E14/1) via the left front mirror lamp switch (S101)
- Right sun visor mirror lamp (E14/2) via the right front mirror lamp switch (S102)

The power supply for the mirror lamp switches is switched off by folding back the mirror cover, locking the vehicle using the transmitter key (A8/1) or leaving the vehicle (with code (889) Keyless-Go).

To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), the power supply is interrupted t = 30 min after circuit 15 Off.

Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination
^ C. 15R On

The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit 15 status to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.

Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
The glove compartment lamp switch (S17/9) is supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit. The voltage is switched through to the glove compartment lamp (E13/1) when the glove compartment lid is opened.
