Operating instructions
Via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) various menu levels can be shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the IC (A1):
- It is possible to scroll in the main menu via the system selection button (S110s3).
- It is possible to scroll within a menu in the submenus (S110s1) or in lists using the scroll forward and back button.
- The "Back" and voice control system off (S110s4) button can be used in each menu or submenu to jump into the next higher menu level.
- S110s6The respective selection or impending messages can be confirmed with the OK button.
All the buttons of the multifunction steering wheel button group are always installed. However the available functions depend on the equipment of the vehicle.

"Trip" menu
The following functions can be selected in the "Trip" menu:
- Show standard display or reset trip odometer
- Show or reset trip computer "After start"
- Show or reset trip computer "After reset"
- Show range and current consumption display (without model 212.077/277)
- Show digital speedometer
- Show digital speedometer with gearshift recommendation (with transmission 711, 716)
"Navi" menu
Navigation notes are displayed in the "Navi" menu when the function is switched on.
When the function is switched off the direction of travel is shown with cardinal points (e.g. "NW direction of travel"
"Audio" menu
The following functions can be selected in the "Audio" menu:
- Select radio station
- Operate CD player/CD changer/DVD changer/DVD audio/MP3
- Operate DVD video
- Operate TV
"Tel." menu (with code (386) comfort telephony)
The name of the selected mobile telephone network is shown in the telephone menu when the function is switched on. It is still possible then to scroll through the stored telephone book and select an entry. When the function is switched off the text "Telephone Off" is displayed.
Assist menu
The following functions can be selected in the assist menu, depending on the equipment installed:
- Switch "ESP" to active or passive (as of 1.6.10)
- Switch "Speed Limit" on or off (with code (513) Speed Limit Assist)
- Show distance chart (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- Switch on/off "PreSafe brakes"
- Switch on/off "Attention Asst."
- Switch "Blind Spot Assist" on or off (with code (234) Blind Spot Assist or with code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist)
- Switch "Lane Keeping Assist" on or off (with code (476) Automatic Lane Recognition or code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)
"Service" menu
The following functions can be selected in the service menu:
- Call up display messages
- Check tire pressure loss warner (without code (475) Tire pressure monitor (premium)) or tire pressure (with code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Premium)) electronically
- Service interval indicator "ASSYST PLUS"
Set up menu
Changes to the following settings can be made in the set up menu:
- Instrument cluster
- Lights
- Vehicle
- "Heater" (with code (228) stationary heater)
- Comfort
- Manufacturer default setting
- "Taxi" (with code (965) Electrical preinstallation for rental vehicle)
- "Time/date" (without code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or without code (527) COMAND APS with Single DVD drive (with navigation))
In the "Light" submenu of the "Adjustment menu" on vehicles with code (621) ILS (left-hand traffic) or with code (622) ILS (right-hand traffic) the "Tourist function" menu item has been added as of 1.12.09. Here low beams can be adapted for left and right hand traffic.
As of 1.06.10, the "Acoustic locking-verification signal" menu item will also be part of the "Vehicle" submenu in the "Settings" menu The "Acoustic locking-verification signal" can be switched on or off here.
"AMG" menu (model 212.077/277)
Various system information is displayed in the "AMG" menu. The following submenus can be called up:
^ "Warm Up" submenu
^ "Setup" submenu
^ "Racetimer" submenu
Submenus are shown in two display menus. The following information is shown in the upper static display level:
- Vehicle speed
- Gear range engaged (e.g.: "P", "N", "D") or gear (1 to 7)
- Upshift request "UP"
An active upshift request "UP" is shown in red "UP". If the "AMG"-submenu is not activated an active upshift request cross fades all information displayed.
The specific information of the individual submenus is shown in the lower dynamic display level.
"Warm Up" submenu
The following information can be displayed in the "Warm up" menu:
- Engine oil temperature (flashing display at T < 80 °C)
- Coolant temperature (display at T < 80 °C)
"Setup" submenu
The following information can be displayed in the "Setup" menu:
- Drive program setting ("C", "S", "S+" or "M" (up to 31.5.10) or "E", "S", "S+" or "M" (as of 1.6.10))
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP) status ("ESP ON", "ESP SPORT" (up to 31.5.10) or "Sport Handling Mode" (as of 1.6.10) or "ESP OFF")
- Suspension setting ("COMFORT", "SPORT" or "SPORT+" (up to 31.5.10) or "ECONOMY", "SPORT" or "SPORT+" (as of 1.6.10))
The "ESP ON" display is hidden after t = 5 s. The "ESP SPORT" (up to 31.5.10) or "Sport Handling Mode" (as of 1.6.10) or "ESP OFF" displays must be acknowledge using the OK button (S110s6).
The "Set Up" submenu can also be called up by pressing the AMG button (S193/3).
"Racetimer" submenu
Lap times driven as under racing conditions can be stopped in the "Race Timer " submenu.
The following information is displayed:
- Current lap time
- Best lap time
- "Race EVal" submenu:
- Lap display
- Lap time per lap
- Maximum speed reached per lap
- Average speed per lap
- Travel distance per lap
- "Race AllVal" submenu:
- Total lap time
- Maximum speed achieved over all laps
- Overall average speed
- Overall travel distance
The operating instructions for the "RACE START" function are issued via the multifunction display.
The function requirements for the "RACE START" function are:
- Gear range "D" engaged
- Engine oil temperature T < 80 °C
- Doors closed
- Steering wheel in straight-ahead position
The "RACE START" function is activated as follows:
- Depress brake pedal
- Activate the "ESP SPORT" (up to 31.5.10) or "Sport Handling Mode" (as of 1.6.10) using the ESP Sport Off AMG button (S193/1)
- Turn transmission mode rotary switch (S192) into the "RS" position
- Operate steering wheel gearshift button upshift (S111/1)
In the multifunction display the text message "RACE START available - press accelerator pedal" appears. If now the accelerator pedal is pressed, the text message "RACE START - release brake to start" appears. After releasing the brake the text message "RACE START active" appears and the function is carried out.
The function is terminated by pressing the downshift steering wheel gearshift button (S110/1). In the multifunction display the text message "RACE START" terminated appears".
