Operation of the vehicle's climate control
The control and operating unit enables the following operations:
- Interior temperature selection separated for the left and right side
- Automatic blower control and air distribution
- Manual blower control and air distribution
- Setting the air flow to focused (strong air flow), medium (default setting) or diffuse (low air flow)
- Switching the automatic air conditioning on and off
- Defrost function
- Switching the A/C compressor (A9) on and off
- Mono mode
- Recirculated air mode
- Residual engine heat utilization system
- Control of the rear window heater (R1)
It is operated with the following buttons:
^ "OFF" button
^ "AUTO" button
^ Temperature rocker
^ Air volume rocker
^ Air distribution rocker
^ Ventilation mode rocker
^ "A/C" button
^ Rear window heater button
^ "ZONE" button
^ Air recirculation mode button
^ Defrosting button
^ REST button
"OFF" button
The automatic air conditioning can be switched off completely or switched back on by pressing the "OFF" button.
"AUTO" button
The air volume and the air distribution are controlled automatically when the "AUTO" button is pressed. If the automatic mode is activated, the light-emitting diode (LED) for the "AUTO" button lights up.
Temperature rocker
Pressing the temperature rocker enables the required specified temperature to be set for the left and right sides. The temperature is shown on the display.
With the temperature set to the maximum, the "HI" indication appears in the display and with the temperature set to the minimum, the "LO" indication appears in the display.
Air volume rocker
The air volume can be adjusted manually by actuating the air volume rocker. The selected setting is shown on the display.
Air distribution rocker
The air volume can be adjusted by actuating the air volume rocker.
The selected air distribution setting is shown on the display.
Ventilation mode rocker
With the ventilation mode rocker, the "diffuse", "medium" or "focused" ventilation mode can be set and the selected ventilation mode is shown in the display:
- "Diffuse" air flow: The air flow remains low and is not aimed at the passengers, if this can be avoided.
- "Medium" air flow: The air flow is approximately the same as the default setting of the automatic mode.
- "Focused" air flow: The air flow remains somewhat higher.
The respective ventilation mode can only be adjusted in automatic mode.
"A/C" button
Pressing the "A/C" button switches the refrigerant compressor on or off. All other functions are retained. The LED for the "A/C"
button lights up when the refrigerant compressor is switched on
Rear window heater button
The rear window heater is switched on when the rear window heater button is pressed. The LED for the rear window heater button lights up during operation.
The operating time of the rear window heater is calculated by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) depending on the outside temperature, interior temperature and vehicle speed.
The detailed rear window heater procedure is described in the rear window heater (HHS) function.
"ZONE" button
By pressing the "ZONE" button, the temperature values set for the driver side are adopted for the passenger side and the rear area. The LED goes out when the function is activated. If the temperature on the passenger side or in the rear is adjusted manually, the LED of the "ZONE" button lights up. A multizone temperature control in the vehicle is thus shown.
Air recirculation mode button
By actuating the air recirculation mode button for t < 1.5 s the fresh air/recirculated air flap is closed to prevent air from flowing in from outside. The air only circulates in the vehicle interior and unpleasant odors and harmful gases are kept out.
The LED for the air recirculation mode button lights up during operation. Pressing the air recirculation mode button for t > 1.5 s activates comfort air recirculation closing. The side windows and the tilting/sliding roof (SHD) (with code (414) Power glass tilting/ sliding roof) or the panoramic sliding sunroof (with code (413) Panoramic glass sunroof with top sliding sunroof) are then closed. When the air recirculation mode button is pressed again for t > 1.5 s, the side windows and the tilting/sliding roof or the panoramic sliding sunroof return to their previous positions.
The side windows, the tilting/sliding roof or the panoramic sliding sunroof, which were manually opened during the air recirculation phase, are not moved back to their previous positions once the air recirculation phase is over.
On vehicles with code (460) Canada version, comfort air recirculation closing is not possible.
The detailed comfort air recirculation closing procedure is described in the convenience feature (CF [KFB]) function.
Defrosting button
When the defroster button is pressed, all air flaps at the air conditioner housing are closed with the exception of the defroster flaps and the fresh air/recirculated air flap. These are fully opened. The defroster flaps are adjusted so that the maximum air flow is directed to the windshield and the front side windows. The blend air flaps are set to full warm air supply. The blower output is controlled depending on the coolant temperature. If the function is activated, the LED for the defroster button lights up.
REST button
With "circuit 15 OFF"; pressing the "REST" button activates the residual engine heat utilization function. If the function is activated, the LED for the "REST" button lights up. With "circuit 15 ON", the function is interrupted again.
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status of circuit 15 to the interior CAN (CAN B).
