Component Identification:






Location
The DISTRONIC electric controller unit is located in the middle behind the radiator grille.

Task
The DISTRONIC electric controller unit has the following tasks:
- Actuation, supply and evaluation of target data for the integral DISTRONIC radar sensor (A89b1) (long range sensor)
- Control of the target evaluation (long range radar)
- Transmitting data for vehicle longitudinal control to the radar sensors control unit (N62/1)

The DISTRONIC control unit (A89n1) integrated in the DISTRONIC controller unit actuates the DISTRONIC radar sensor and evaluates the target data. The DISTRONIC control unit transmits the target data from the long range sensor from the DISTRONIC controller unit via the dynamics CAN (CAN H) to the radar sensors control unit (for control of the vehicle in the longitudinal direction of the DISTRONIC PLUS).

Design
The DISTRONIC radar sensor (long range sensor) and the DISTRONIC control unit are integrated in the DISTRONIC electric controller unit.

Properties of the long range radar:
- Detection range of radar sensor from 0 to 200 m
- Detection angle of the radar beam is 60° for detection areas from 0 to 60 m and 18° for detection areas from 0 to 200 m
- 77 GHz radar sensor operating on the pulse Doppler principle for independent measurement of distance and speed
- Fully integrated electronics system (high frequency circuit in the DISTRONIC electric controller unit)


Component Identification:






The radar plate is a radar-permeable cover in the radiator grille, which is required for the Distronic PLUS to function correctly.

Its tasks are as follows:
- Shielding against external effects (such as dirt, ice or insects)
- Ensuring optimal transmission and reception properties of the radar sensor
