Folding left/right outside mirror function sequence, general
The left outside mirror (M21/1) and right outside mirror (M21/2) can be folded in and out electrically.
This can be done both automatically as well as manually.
The left front door control unit (N69/1) has the master function during adjustment and relays the required signal to the right front door control unit (N69/2) via the interior CAN (CAN B).
If a new housing adjustment request is recognized during an active housing adjustment, the housing adjustment is directly switched to the opposite direction.
The fold left/right outside mirror function comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Manual folding in/out, function sequence
^ Automatic folding in/out, function sequence
^ Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal
Manual folding in/out, function sequence
The partial manual fold-in/out functions consist of the following two subfunctions:
^ Manual folding in function sequence
^ Manual folding out function sequence
Additional function requirements for manually folding in
^ Outside mirror folded out
^ C. 15R On
^ Vehicle speed v < 47 km/h
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status c. 15 via the interior CAN.
The vehicle speed is provided by the instrument cluster via the interior CAN.
Manual folding in function sequence
By actuating the outside mirror fold-in/out switch (S20s9) both outside mirrors can be folded to the garage position. The adjustment request of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch is transmitted via the left door LIN (LIN B5) by the left front door control unit and to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor(M21/1m3) in the left outside mirror (M21/1) and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor(M21/2m3) in the right outside mirror (M21/2). The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
Additional function requirements for manual fold-out
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ C. 15R On
Manual folding out function sequence
The mirror housings can be folded to the driving position when actuating the outside mirror fold-in/out switch. The adjustment request from the outside mirror fold-in/out switch is read by the left front door control unit via the left door LIN and transmitted to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
Additional function requirements for automatic fold-in/out
^ Function in instrument cluster (A1) activated
For this purpose activate in the multifunction display (A1p13) comfort menu "Fold in mirror when locking" over the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) or right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111).
The signals from the multifunction steering wheel button group are read in by the steering wheel electronics (N135) and sent over the steering LIN (LIN E1) to the steering column tube module control unit (N80). The steering column tube module control unit routes the signals over the chassis CAN (CAN E) to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster enables the function over the interior CAN to the left front door control unit.
Automatic folding in/out, function sequence
The partial automatic fold-in/out functions consist of the following two subfunctions:
^ Automatic folding in function sequence
^ Automatic folding out function sequence
Additional function requirements for automatic folding in
^ C. 15C OFF
Automatic folding in function sequence
When the vehicle is locked with the central locking (CL) with the transmitter key (A8/1), both outside mirrors are folded in automatically (garage position).
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the status of the CL to the left front door control unit and right front door control unit via the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
Detailed information on the CL is given in the separate function description "Central locking (CL)".
Additional function requirements for automatic folding out
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ CL locked
Automatic folding out function sequence
Both mirror housings are folded out automatically to the previous position when the vehicle is unlocked with CL with the transmitter key (driving position).
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the status of the CL to the left front door control unit and right front door control unit via the interior CAN.
Opening the driver door is sensed by the left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) in the left front door lock (A85). The signal from the rotary tumbler switch is read by in the left front door control unit.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5 s.
If the outside mirrors are still folded in with circuit 15R ON by a previous automatic folding-in procedure, the mirror housings are folded out immediately.
Additional function requirements for automatic fold-in via speed signal
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ Changeover from c. 15C OFF to c. 15 ON
Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal
If the vehicle speed is v > 47 km/h, the outside mirror is folded out automatically.
The vehicle speed is provided by the instrument cluster via the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 1 s.
After exceeding a speed of v > 47 km/h it is no longer possible to fold in the outside mirrors.
