Breakdown assistance, general
With the breakdown assistance function it is possible for the customer to contact the service center in the event of a problem with the vehicle, for example. The service center can then perform remote diagnosis of the actual situation and initiate effective help measures, in consideration of further vehicle-specific data. The breakdown assistance function consists of the following subfunctions:

^ Function sequence, destination entry by service center or Points of Interest (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)

Breakdown assistance function sequence
The breakdown assistance button is read in by the emergency call system control unit via a direct line. The emergency call system control unit then completes a voice connection to the service center.

After the service center replies with a special tone, the emergency call system control unit automatically sends an SMS with the following data to the service center via the integrated communication module:
- Vehicle position
- Customer identification data
- Vehicle identification data

The communication module integrated in the emergency call system control unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals via the following route:
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

The light emitting diode integrated in the breakdown assistance button flashes as long as the breakdown assistance is active. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster (A1) and on the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8).

In the event of breakdown assistance, other vehicle-related services with a lower priority (e.g. MB Info call) are interrupted.

In the event of a malfunction in the multifunction antenna (e.g. defective because of a rollover), the communication module integrated in the emergency call system control unit automatically sends and receives the mobile phone signals via the emergency call system antenna (A2/52).

Function sequence, destination entry by service center or Points of Interest (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
In the event of breakdown assistance, it is possible for example, to load the address of a workshop into the navigation module of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

The service center sends the address of the workshop via mobile phone signals via the following route:
- Multifunction antenna
- Direct line
- Emergency call system control unit
- Diagnostic CAN (CAN D)
- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)

Detailed information on starting the navigation can be found in the system description for the COMAND controller unit.

The destination entered by the service center and the Points of Interest are displayed on the Audio/COMAND display by the emergency call system control unit via the following route:
