The radio is located in the center console.

The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface.

Reads in the controls and input signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
^ Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) (with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer)

Direct line
The radio is equipped with the following direct connections:
- Wake-up for MOST (bi-directional)
- AUX connection in the glove compartment, for external audio devices (without code (518) Media interface)
- Hands-free system microphone (A67b1)
- FM 1, AM, CL and KEYLESS-GO antenna amplifier (A2/18)
- Antenna amplifier FM 2 and DAB (A2/19)
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)

CAN
The radio is a subscriber of the interior CAN (CAN B) and the telematics CAN (CAN A).

MOST (with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer)
Control and audio signals from the following control units:

- Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code (810) Sound system)
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) (with code (537) Digital radio)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (with code (518) Media interface)

The input values are processed in the radio.

Activation of output media and system components
The following direct output signals are possible:
- Audio output (speaker) (without code (810) Sound system)
- Switching voltage for mobile phone cradle (A34/15) via the contact plate and the Bluetooth module (A34/7) (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- Provision of a structured and uniform interface for the following system components:
- Audio system (e.g. "Radio", CD (including MP3), AUX)
- Communication system (e.g. telephone with telephone book function)
- Tone settings (e.g. "bass", "treble", "fader", "balance')
- System settings (e.g. "brightness" and "contrast" of the audio/COMAND display)

Function
The buttons of the button panels on the radio are read in and provided to the central computer. The button operations are processed further in the central computer and forwarded in the form of messages via MOST (with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer), telematics CAN or interior CAN to the other system components. If the "ON" button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume is regulated for each audio source set by turning the ON button. The function keys in the left-hand button panel are used to switch over to the audio source selected by the user.

The radio is available in the variants:

- Audio 20 with CD changer (with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer)

CD drive
The integrated CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including in MP3 format).
