GF82.60-P-2020FL Media Interface Function
GF82.60-P-2020FL Media Interface Function
- with CODE (518) Media interface
Function requirements
^ Circuit 30g ON
Depending on the equipment version, one of the following audio devices is installed (hereinafter called "Audio equipment"):
- Radio (A2) (with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer)
- Radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) (with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio or with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer)
- COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or with code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer)
Media interface, general
With the media interface function, it is possible to connect the following portable terminals to the audio equipment via a media interface adapter cable, the media interface electrical connector (X18/70), the media interface control unit (N125/1) and Media Oriented System Transport (MOST):
- AUX devices (class 1)
- "iPod" or universal serial bus (USB) devices (Media Transfer Protocol) (class 2)
- Special USB devices (mass storage device) (class 3)
AUX devices without control can be connected to the AUX jack. "iPods" can be connected to the "iPod" connector.
USB devices can be connected to the USB jack.
Media Transfer Protocol (class 2) devices are connected to the USB socket and the AUX jack.
The conventional AUX jack installed in the glove box is eliminated.
As of 1.6.2010: With the audio source "Aux" (via media interface adapter cable), the selections "Standard" and "Boost" are possible in the "Volume" menu. The input level can be increased by selecting "Boost".
The portable devices listed are controlled using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
Menu navigation and the graphic representation of the menu navigation are accomplished on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) and are dependent on the specific portable device connected.
Function sequence for media interface
The media interface control unit is supplied with power over 2 direct lines (circuit 31 and circuit 30). If a portable device is connected, it is recognized by the media interface control unit via the following route:
- Media interface adapter cable
- Media interface electrical connector
The media interface control unit then sends a signal to the audio equipment, which then switches to the connected source. The audio signals and data from the connected portable device are transferred to the audio equipment via the following route:
- Media interface adapter cable
- Media interface electrical connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST
The video signals and data are transferred from the media interface connector to the audio equipment over direct lines. This is possible with the following equipment variants:
- with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer and without code (218) Reversing camera
- With code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) and without code (218) Reversing camera
- With code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer and without code (218) Reversing camera
The user can now display the audio data or video data on the Audio/COMAND display by selecting the "Media Interface" menu item as well as the specific submenu item ("Playlists", "Artists", "Albums", "Genres" or "Audio books").
The "Media interface" menu item and the specific submenu item can be selected using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
The control signals from the buttons on the "Audio equipment" are processed internally.
The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the audio equipment in the following way:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Following evaluation of the control signals in the audio equipment, they are forwarded by the audio equipment to the connected portable end device via the following route:
- MOST
- Media interface control unit
- Media interface electrical connector
- Media interface adapter cable
The connected portable end device evaluates the control signals and sends the corresponding audio signals and data to the audio equipment via the following route:
- Media interface adapter cable
- Media interface electrical connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST
The video signals and data are transmitted via a coaxial line to the audio equipment. The video signals and data are then processed internally and transmitted to the Audio/COMAND display via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.
In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output by the audio equipment via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and from there via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (with model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (with model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)
For the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or for the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal is routed from the audio equipment to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) using direct lines.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output by the audio equipment to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)
