Audio system, general
The following components are available for control of the audio system:
- Control buttons on the radio (A2)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) (call basic menu and make settings)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) (volume, telephone functions)
The following basic functions can be controlled:
^ "RADIO" basic function

^ "Tone settings" basic function
^ "TEL" basic function
^ "SYS" basic function
When the radio is switched on, the menu last active is shown to the user. In addition, the following warning is output in the preset language on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8): "Warning! Do not allow yourself to be distracted from the traffic by the system".
"RADIO" basic function
The "RADIO" basic function is called up by pressing the "RADIO" function key. It is possible to change between the following frequency bands by pressing a number of times:
- "FM"
- "MW"
- "SW"
- "LW"
- "DAB" (Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) (with code (537) Digital radio)
When the "RADIO" basic function is called, the corresponding basic mask appears. The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display:
- Stations currently receivable and their memory locations (station name with radio data system (RDS) or frequency)
- Cursor, with which a different station can be selected.
- Function bar with corresponding submenus
- Time
In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and various settings made:
- "DAB" submenu (with code (537) Digital radio)
- "Station list" (for FM)
- "Subprograms"
- "Fix station"
- "TA" (Traffic Announcement (TA))
- "Radio" submenu
- "Station list" (for FM)
- "Frequency entry"
- "Fix frequency" (for FM) (the station set is fixed)
- "TA"
- "Memory" submenu
- "Auto memory" for automatic search and storage of 10 stations with strongest reception
- "Stored stations"
- "Info" submenu (only frequency bands FM and DAB with code (537) Digital radio)
- Supplemental information transmitted by station
- "<<" and ">>" submenu (with code (537) Digital radio)
- Search and select various "Ensembles"
- "Tone" submenu
- "Treble"
- "Bass"
- "Bal/fader"
- "Logic7" (with code (810) Sound system)
"DISC" basic function
The "DISC" basic function can be called by pressing the "DISC" function key. The corresponding basic mask appears. The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display (readable data carrier inserted (Audio-CD or MP3)):
- Number of tracks on the CD
- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist (if available on CD)
- Function bar with corresponding submenus
In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and various settings made:
- "CD or MP3" submenu
- "Normal track order"
- "Folder mix" (only MP3 mode)
- "Track mix"
- "TA"
- "Aux" (without code (518) Media interface)
- "Track list or folder" submenu
- Track list on CD (CD mode only)
- Track list on CD (MP3 mode only)
- "Medium, Media or changer" submenu
- "Medium" (with code (523) Radio MB Audio 20)
- "Media" (with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer)
- "Changer" (with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer)
- "Tone" submenu
- "Treble"
- "Bass"
- "Bal/fader"
- "Logic7" (with code (810) Sound system)
With the audio source AUX, the selection "Standard" or "Boost" is possible under "Volume". The input level can be increased by selecting "Boost".
A track in the track list can be selected with the control buttons on the radio or on the audio/COMAND control panel. The playback position can be changed by pushing and holding the audio/ COMAND controller (A40/9s11) to the right (forward) or left (back).
"Tone settings" basic function
Various tone settings can be made for the individual audio sources. The "Tone settings" basic function can be called either by pressing the "Tone settings" function key or in the basic menu for the audio source in question and allows the tone settings to be made for the audio system. The following settings are shown on the audio/COMAND display:
- "Treble"
- "Bass"
- "Bal/Fad"
- "Logic7" (with code (810) Sound system)
"TEL" basic function
The "TEL" basic function can be called by pressing the "TEL" function key and allows operation of the vehicle telephone system. When the "TEL" basic function is called, the corresponding basic mask appears.
The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display:
- Name of currently connected mobile phone
- Field strength of mobile telephone network
- Handset symbol
- Speller with characters for entering telephone numbers
- Function bar with corresponding submenus
In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and various settings made:
- "Telephone" submenu
- "Bluetooth telephone"
- "Update"
- "Comfort telephone" (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- "Address book"
- "Delete external data"
- "Receive calling card"
- "Name" submenu
- Display of contacts (call telephone book functions)
- "SMS" submenu (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
- Call up list of Short Message Service (SMS) messages
- "Call lists" submenu
- "Incoming"
- "Dialed"
- "Delete call list"
- "Switch hands-free system on/off" (during call)
A telephone connection can be completed as follows:
- Entry of telephone number
- Selection of telephone book entry
- Selection of telephone number from call list
Incoming calls are signaled visually on the audio/COMAND display as well as acoustically.
"SYS" basic function
The "SYS" basic function can be called by pressing the "SYS"function key. The corresponding basic mask appears. The following information appears on the audio/COMAND display:
- Symbol for "SYS" basic menu
- Function bar with corresponding submenus
In the function bar, the following submenus can be called and system settings made:
- "System" submenu
- "Display": "Brightness", "Day design", "Night design", "Automatic", "Activate Bluetooth", "Reset" (reset to the manufacturer default settings)
- "Language" submenu (Settings system language)
