Television / Monitor: Description and Operation
GF82.90-P-4020FL Component Description For Rear Display Left/right
- with CODE (864) Rear entertainment system
Component Identification:
Location
The left rear display is located on the left front seat behind the head restraint. The right rear display is located on the right front seat behind the head restraint.
The displays are of identical design and the decision as to whether the display is used on the left or right side is made via the "Side" pin (left = "Side" pin to ground (circuit 31), right = "Side" pin not assigned). The following description refers to the left rear display. It also applies to the right rear display accordingly.
Task
^ Visualization of all user-relevant information in rear entertainment system
^ Use of all audio equipment or video units installed at the rear display
^ Manage connected audio equipment or video units
^ Power and resource management
^ Connection detection i.e. recognition of connected video units
^ Human-Machine Interface (HMI)
^ Reception of signals
^ Generation of picture signals
^ Generation of infrared (IR) signals (up to 31.5.2010)
^ Generation of radio signals (as of 1.6.2010)
^ Output of audio signals
^ Transmission of signals
Visualization of all user-relevant information in rear entertainment system
- Graphic displays for user guidance
- Operation
- Display of digital picture signals
Use of all audio equipment or video units installed at the rear display
The following audio equipment or video units can be connected via the AUX jack, for example:
- Portable DVD player
- Video cameras
- MP3 player
- Game consoles
Manage connected audio equipment or video units
The following audio/video devices are managed via the AUX jack, for example:
- Portable DVD player
- Video cameras
- MP3 player
- Game consoles
Power and resource management
Detection of overvoltage/undervoltage combined with appropriate switch on/off behavior
Connection detection i.e. recognition of connected video units
Recognition of video units at the AUX jack, e.g.:
- Portable DVD player
- Video cameras
- Game consoles
HMI
Enables the communication between the rear passenger or the rear passengers and the rear entertainment system by means of the IR interfaces of the remote control and the rear display.
Reception of signals
^ Direct lines
^ Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
Direct lines
- Circuit 30g and circuit 31 power supply
- Y-brightness (luminance)/C-color information (chrominance) (Y/ C) line for analog picture signals from the DVD player (A40/4)
- Low frequency (LF) stereo line for analog audio signals from the DVD player
- Analog picture and audio signals from the audio equipment or video units connected to the AUX jack
- IR signals (digital) from remote control via IR interface
CAN
The rear display is a subscriber of the telematics CAN (CAN A). It communicates with the following components:
- Radio (A2) (with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio or with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer)
- Radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) (with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio or with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer)
- COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (528) COMAND APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
- DVD player
Generation of picture signals
Generation of digital picture signals from the analog picture signals to be shown on the rear display.
Generation of IR signals (up to 31.5.2010)
Generation of digital IR audio signals from analog audio signals for transmission to headphones (cordless) connected via the IR interface.
Generation of radio signals (as of 1.6.2010)
Generation of digital radio signals from analog audio signals for transmission to headphones (cordless) connected via the two-way radio interface.
Output of audio signals
Output of audio signals via following options:
- Analog:
- To headphones connected by cable to the integrated headphone socket
- IR (up to 31.5.2010):
- To headphones (cordless) connected via the IR interface
- Two-way radio (as of 1.6.2010):
- To headphones (cordless) connected via the two-way radio interface
The volume of the audio signals can only be adjusted via the remote control for the headphones connected by cable to the headphone socket. For the headphones (cordless) connected via the IR or two-way radio interface, the volume of the audio signals is adjusted via the volume control integrated in the headphones.
Transmission of signals
^ Direct lines
^ CAN
Direct lines
- Electrical analog signals (frequency) (audio signals) to headphones connected via cable
