The "Rear entertainment switch on/off behavior and system settings" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Switch on via remote control function sequence
^ Additional settings in "System" menu item via remote control function sequence
^ Switch off via remote control function sequence
^ Automatic switch off by removing transmitter key function sequence (A8/1)

Switch on via remote control function sequence
The switch-on signal from the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control and the position of the "Roller" control on the remote control are transmitted to the respective display via the infrared (IR) interface on the remote control.
The respective display forwards the switch-on signal to the DVD player (A40/4) via telematics CAN.
At the same time, the respective display generates the audio and picture signals for the "Corporate identity" screen for approx. t = 6 s.
The respective display then shows the applications last stored under the respective menu items.

Additional settings in "System" menu item via remote control function sequence
The associated submenus can be called up in the following menus in the application field on the relevant display using the "System" menu item and the relevant settings made:
- "System settings":
- "Language":
- "German"
- "Danish"
- "English"
- "Spanish"
- "French"
- "Italian"
- "Dutch"
- "Portuguese"
- "Swedish"
- "Turkish"
- "Russian"
- "Korean"
- "Japanese"
- "Chinese" (2 variants, "traditional" and "simplified")

- "Day design"
- "Night design"
- "Automatic"
- "Brightness" (background illumination from -5 to +5)
- "Display off" (shutoff of respective display, but not a system shutoff)

The "System" menu item with menus and submenus is selected, operated and adjusted on the display via the following controls:
- "Roller":
- Select respective display

- "4-zone control with OK":
- Go to screen interface on respective display in four directions and select menus or submenus with OK

- "Back":
- Move back through menu levels

The signals from the above-specified controls on the remote control are transferred via the IR interfaces on the remote control and the relevant display.
The display generates the requests for outputting the required application on the relevant display from the received IR signals.

Switch off via remote control function sequence
The switch-off signal from the "ON/OFF" control on the remote control and the position of the "Roller" control on the remote control are transmitted via the IR interfaces on the remote control and appear on the relevant display.

The respective display forwards the switch-off signal to the DVD player via telematics CAN.
The last menu item application to be used on the display is saved in the relevant display.

Automatic switch off by removing transmitter key, function sequence
When the transmitter key is removed from the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73), a message that the transmitter key was removed is shown on the respective display and the user is asked whether he/she would like to continue with the application If the "OK" option is confirmed on the remote control with the "4- zone control with OK", the function remains active for about t = 30 min. Then the rear entertainment system is switched off and the last menu item application to be used on the relevant display is stored in the display.
If the inquiry whether the application is to be continued is not confirmed with "OK" on the remote control, the rear entertainment system is switched off immediately and the last menu item application to be used on the relevant display is saved in the display.

The DVD player and the respective displays are given the status circuit 15C Off (transmitter key removed) by the electronic ignition lock control unit via the following route:
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
- Audio equipment
- Telematics CAN

The message on the respective display is generated by the display. The control signals from the "4-zone control with OK" control on the remote control are transferred via the IR interface on the remote control to the respective display. The display generates the screen display from the status and the control signals that are received.
