General
The user has a facility for managing his text messages (e.g. reading or deleting) in the form of the Short Message Service (SMS) application. For this, the SMS messages previously received on the mobile phone as well as the new SMS messages are transmitted to the "audio unit". The following SMS functions are possible:
- Receiving SMS
- Read text messages via the mobile phone display and the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8)
- Delete SMS
- Read SMS (English or German)
- Mail inbox list of the 30 most recent SMS messages, sorted by date (choice of displaying either the sender or the start of the text for each SMS)
The "Short Message Service (SMS)" function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for loading present SMS to audio equipment
^ Function sequence, receive text message
^ Function sequence, call up messaging application
^ Function sequence for displaying SMS message
^ Function sequence for composing and transmitting SMS
^ Function sequence, read out text message
Function sequence for loading present SMS to audio equipment
The SMS already stored in the mobile phone are transmitted from the mobile phone to the "audio control unit" in the following way:
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Direct line
Loading an SMS can sometimes take some time; this may be due to the model or the number of SMS messages on the mobile phone.
Function sequence, receive text message
Incoming SMS messages are received as follows:
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)
- Direct line
- Mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53) (with code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (A28/3) (with code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- Cradle
The SMS messages received by the mobile phone are sent to the audio equipment via the following route:
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
Function sequence, call up messaging application
The SMS function for managing (e.g. reading or deleting) SMS messages is selected via the "Telephone (TEL)" base function, using the "TEL hardkey" on the audio equipment, or via the "TEL" menu item in the application bar on the Audio/COMAND display, using the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9), and then via the "SMS" menu item in the function bar. The control signals from the "TEL hardkey" on the audio equipment are processed internally. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the "audio equipment". The menu item is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the "audio equipment" via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.
Function sequence for displaying SMS message
The SMS messages are displayed on the Audio/COMAND display via an LVDS line.
Function sequence for composing and transmitting SMS
It is only possible to read and transmit SMS messages via the buttons on the mobile phone.
The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally.
SMS messages are then sent to the recipient by the mobile phone in the following way:
- Cradle
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (with code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- Mobile phone and stationary heater radio remote control antenna splitter (with code (228) Stationary heater) and direct line
- Multifunction antenna
Function sequence, read out text message
The SMS voice output in vehicles with code (810) Sound system is transmitted using audio signals from the audio equipment to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
From there, the audio signal is transmitted to the following speakers over direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (with model 221.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (with model 221.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)
For the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or for the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal is routed from the audio equipment to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) using direct lines.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signal is output directly by the COMAND audio equipment to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)
