GF82.70-P-2008FLJ Setting Up/Ending Phone Call, Function

Function requirements
^ Circuit 30g
^ One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
^ Compatible mobile phone connected over the Japan adapter cable electrical connector (X39/46) to the communications control unit (N123/6) or a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone paired with the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) is located in the vehicle

A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle when a mobile phone is not connected to the adapter cable electrical connector and the adapter cable.

In order to be able to operate a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone that is authorized on the COMAND controller unit in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5.

General
The mobile phone can be used by the user to initiate or terminate a telephone call to another person in the mobile phone system network or the fixed-line network. The establish call and terminate call function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Establish call function sequence using mobile phone buttons
^ Establish call function sequence via function keys on the COMAND controller unit
^ Establish call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
^ Establish call function sequence over left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Establish call function sequence using voice control system (VCS [SBS])
^ Establish call function sequence for phone call in hands-free mode
^ Terminate call function sequence using mobile phone buttons
^ Terminate call function sequence via function keys on the COMAND controller unit
^ Terminate call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
^ Terminate call function sequence via left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
^ Function sequence, call termination

The system is described using a mobile phone connected to the adapter cable electrical connector as an example. Deviations from this are indicated with the symbol.

A telephone call can be established or terminated using the:
^ Buttons on the mobile phone
^ Function keys on the COMAND controller unit
^ Audio/COMAND control panel
^ Left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
^ VCS [SBS] (only for establishing call)

Establish call function sequence using mobile phone buttons
Dialing the telephone number using the buttons on the mobile phone or selecting the telephone number from the mobile phone's telephone book and pressing the "Accept call button" initiates the telephone call in hands-free mode.

The control signals of the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded via the following route to the COMAND controller unit:
- Adapter cable electrical connector
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND controller unit. The telephone call is completed in "Private mode" when the mobile phone supports "Private mode" "Private mode" is activated.

Establish call function sequence via function keys on the COMAND controller unit
Dialing the telephone number using the function keys on the COMAND controller unit and pressing the "Accept phone call" button establishes the telephone call in hands-free mode. The control signals of the function keys at the COMAND controller unit are processed internally and forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Mobile phone Bluetooth(R) antenna

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the phone call is established in "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Establish call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
The "Telephone (TEL)" base function is activated using the "TEL" function key at the COMAND controller unit or the "TEL" menu item in the application bar on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) via the Audio/COMAND control panel and then shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The control signals of the "TEL" function key at the COMAND controller unit are processed internally. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit. The menu item is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the COMAND controller unit via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.

The following ways of dialing a telephone number are now available to the user:
- Enter telephone number using available speller
- Search for the telephone number using the "Address book" menu entry in the address book
- Search for the telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists

Activation of the "SEND" function on the Audio/COMAND display establishes the telephone call in hands-free mode.
The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit. The control signals are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

The user can scroll forward and back in the mobile phone's phone book or the COMAND controller unit's address book and in the call lists using the Audio/COMAND control panel to select the name of the person to be called.

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the phone call is established in "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Establish call function sequence via left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
The mobile phone's phone book or the COMAND controller unit's address book is selected by pressing the system selection button (S110s3) via the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1). The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling forward and back in the mobile phone's phone book or the COMAND controller unit's address book using the scroll forward / back button (S110s1).
The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree system.

The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN (CAN B)

The control signals are routed by the COMAND controller unit to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

The display in the instrument cluster is generated by the COMAND controller unit over the interior CAN.

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the phone call is established in "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Establish call function sequence using voice control system
Pressing the voice control system ON button (S111s4) of the right multifunction steering wheel button group activates the voice control of the voice control system. The voice control system button control signal is forwarded via the following components to the COMAND controller unit:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics
- Steering LIN
- Steering column module control unit
- Chassis CAN
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND controller unit in vehicles with code (810) Sound system over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).

From the sound system amplifier control unit, the signal tone is transmitted by means of an audio signal to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (with model 212.2)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57) (with model 212.0)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left rear door sound system tweeter (H4/70)
- Right rear door sound system tweeter (H4/71)
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speakers (H4/73)
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/80)
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker (H4/81)

For the bass speaker (H4/17) (model 212.0) or for the bass speaker (H4/29) (model 212.2), the audio signal is routed from the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) using direct lines.

On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signal is output directly by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/3h1)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)

Now different voice commands can be used to search and select a telephone number.
The voice commands are recorded by the handsfree system microphone (A67b1) and forwarded via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit. The control signals are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

The voice control of the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) is used to establish the telephone call in the hands-free mode.

The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the phone call is established in "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Establish call function sequence for phone call in hands-free mode
When the call has been established successfully, the "mobile phone" transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data in the following way:
- Adapter cable electrical connector
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

The voice input in hands-free mode is picked up by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit via a direct line. The voice input is then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

The voice output is forwarded by the COMAND controller unit in vehicles with code (810) Sound system by means of audio signals to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST. From there, the audio signal is transmitted to the following speakers over direct lines:
- Center instrument panel speaker
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker
- Left front door sound system tweeter
- Right front door sound system tweeter
- Left rear door sound system tweeter
- Right rear door sound system tweeter
- Left front door sound system midrange and bass speakers
- Right front door sound system midrange and bass speakers
- Left rear door sound system midrange speaker
- Right rear door sound system midrange speaker

For the bass speaker, the audio signals are transmitted from the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier using direct lines.

On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output directly by the COMAND controller unit to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door speaker
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door speaker
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door speaker
- Right rear door tweeter

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the mobile phone sends or receives the mobile phone signals or mobile phone data via the antenna of the mobile phone. Communication between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone takes place via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the phone call is established in "Private mode" if the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated. Voice input takes place using the microphone integrated in the mobile phone and voice output is emitted via the speakers integrated into the mobile phone.

When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation.

Terminate call function sequence using mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "QUIT" button on the mobile phone terminates the telephone call. The control signals of the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded via the following route to the COMAND controller unit:
- Adapter cable electrical connector
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line

With a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND controller unit.

Terminate call function sequence via function keys on the COMAND controller unit
Pressing the "END" function key on the COMAND controller unit terminates the telephone call. The control signals of the telephone buttons on the COMAND controller unit are processed internally and forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

Terminate call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
When the "END" function is activated in the "Telephone (TEL)" base function on the Audio/COMAND display, the telephone call is terminated. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit. The control signals are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Communication control unit
- Direct line
- Adapter cable electrical connector

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

Terminate call function sequence via left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group
The accept/terminate phone call button terminates the telephone call. The control signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND controller unit via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics
- Steering LIN
- Steering column module control unit
- Chassis CAN
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN

The control signals are routed by the COMAND controller unit to the mobile phone via the following route:

- Communication control unit

On a mobile phone operated via Bluetooth(R), communication takes place between the COMAND controller unit and the mobile phone via the following route:

- Bluetooth antenna

Function sequence, call termination
After a phone call has been terminated, the mobile phone interrupts the transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals or data. This takes place internally in the mobile phone.
