Function sequence, establish call using mobile phone buttons
The telephone number is selected via the buttons on the mobile phone or from the mobile phone's phone book. The "Accept phone call" button is pressed. The phone call is then established in hands- free mode or in private mode, depending on the model. The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone.

Establish call function sequence by using the telephone keys or the keypad on the "audio unit"
After dialing the telephone number using the telephone buttons on the "audio equipment" and pressing the "Accept phone call" button, the phone call is established in handsfree mode.
The control signals from the telephone buttons on the "audio equipment" are processed internally and forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

Communication with the basic telephony takes place between the "audio unit" and the mobile phone in the following way:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth mobile phone antenna

Establish call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
The "Telephone (TEL)" base function is activated by using the TEL hardkey on the "audio equipment" and then displayed on the Audio/COMAND display.
With code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer, the "Telephone (TEL)" base function can also be activated using the "TEL" menu item in the application bar on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) using the Audio/COMAND control panel.

The menu item is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the "audio equipment" via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.

The following ways of dialing a telephone number are now available to the user:
- Enter telephone number using available speller
- Search for telephone number using "Name" menu entry in the phone book
- Search for the telephone number using the "Address book" menu entry in the address book
- Search for the telephone number using the "Call lists" menu entry in the call lists
- Telephone number from SMS application (with comfort telephony), in this case the sender of the SMS or a telephone number within the SMS can be selected.

Activation of the "SEND" function on the Audio/COMAND display establishes the telephone call in hands-free mode.
The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the telematics CAN. The control signals are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

The user can scroll forward and back in the phone book or address book and in the call lists using the Audio/COMAND control panel to select the name of the person to be called.

Communication with the basic telephony takes place between the "audio unit" and the mobile phone in the following way:
- Direct line

Establish call function sequence over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The phone book or the address book is selected by pressing the system selection (S110s3) button via the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1). The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling forward and back in the phone book or the address book using the scroll forward and back button (S110s1). The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree system.
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio unit" via the following components:
- Direct line
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.
The signal tone in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, is sent by the "audio equipment" via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).

From there, the signal tone is transmitted by means of an audio signal to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/55) (with model 212.2)

- Right rear door tweeter (H4/4h1)

Establishing a call is activated in the dialog with the VCS [SBS] with the help of voice commands, e.g. with the following
- "Dial number"
- "Redial"
- "Read telephone book"
- "Listen to or delete address book"
- "Open or spell entries"
- "Landline or mobile"
- "Dial"

The voice commands are registered by the hands-free system microphone (A67b1) and forwarded to the "audio equipment" via a direct line. The voice commands are then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna

The voice input is registered by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the "audio equipment" via a direct line. The voice input is then forwarded to the mobile phone via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

The voice output in vehicles with code (810) Sound system takes place via audio signals from the "audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST. From there, the audio signal is transmitted to the following speakers over direct lines:

For the bass speaker, the audio signals are transmitted from the "audio equipment" to the sound system amplifier control unit via MOST and from there to the bass speaker via the rear bass speaker amplifier using direct lines.

On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are output directly by the "audio equipment" to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door speaker
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door speaker
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door speaker
- Right rear door tweeter

When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation. "Private Mode" is activated when the mobile phone is removed from the cradle.
