Supplemental information (not for CDMA network in USA):
The PIN serves to prevent any unauthorized use of the SIM card. The SIM card is locked after the PIN has been entered incorrectly 3 times. In vehicles without code (494) USA version, the SIM card is enabled again by entering the personal 8-digit Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) using the buttons on the mobile phone for basic telephony and comfort telephony.
This allows entry of a new PIN number. If the PUK is entered incorrectly 10 times in succession, the SIM card can no longer be used and a new SIM card must be applied for from the service provider.

Telephone switch On/Off characteristics function
With basic telephony, the mobile phone must be switched on or off manually via the buttons on the mobile phone. For comfort telephony, the mobile phone is switched on automatically by switching on the audio equipment via a wake-up pulse from the audio equipment.

The switch-on signal of the audio equipment is transmitted to the cradle via a direct line and the Bluetooth module (A34/7). The mobile phone is then switched on and supplied with power. If set on the mobile phone, the PIN is requested after the mobile phone has been switched on (not for "CDMA network" in USA). The PIN inquiry is displayed by the audio equipment via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) as well as via the interior CAN (CAN-B) in the instrument cluster (A1).

Depending on the prompt, the 4 to 8-digit PIN must be entered in one of the following ways:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)

The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally by the mobile phone.
The control signals from the telephone buttons of the audio equipment are processed internally and routed to the mobile phone via the following path:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

The control signals of the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded to the audio equipment via the telematics CAN (CAN A). From there, the voice signals are routed to the mobile phone via the following path:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

The voice signals from the VCS [SBS] are registered by the hands-free system microphone (A67b1) and forwarded to the audio equipment via a direct line. From there, the voice signals are routed to the mobile phone via the following path:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

After it has been enabled (not for "CDMA network" in USA), the mobile phone tries to register in an available mobile telephone network via the following path:
- Cradle
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (A28/3) (with code (386) Comfort telephony and code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- Mobile phone antenna splitter and stationary heater radio remote control (A2/53) (with code (386) Comfort telephony and code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

After registering in the mobile telephone network of the service provider, the following display appears on the screen of the mobile phone and on the Audio/COMAND display:
- Name of the mobile telephone network (Economic Commission for Europe (ECE)) or
- "Ready" (USA)

The mobile phone signals are received via the following path:
- Multifunction antenna
- Direct line
- Mobile phone antenna splitter and stationary heater radio remote control (with code (386) Comfort telephony and code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- E-net compensator (with code (386) Comfort telephony and code (228) Stationary heater)
- Direct line
- Cradle

The display on the mobile phone's screen is forwarded internally. The display on the Audio/COMAND display is transmitted in the following way:
- Mobile phone
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line
- Audio equipment
- LVDS line

For basic telephony, the switch-on signal is processed internally in the mobile phone. The PIN inquiry, if set on the mobile phone, is only displayed on the mobile phone's screen. The PIN is only entered via the buttons on the mobile phone. After the SIM card has been enabled with the correct PIN, the mobile phone tries to register in an available mobile telephone network via the mobile phone antenna.
The mobile phone network name is only shown on the display of the mobile phone if "HFP 1.5" is supported. The display and the signals of the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally in the mobile phone.
