Additional Bluetooth(R) information
For simple and fast integration of a mobile phone into the vehicle, the COMAND controller unit supports the Bluetooth(R) standardized network technology. Bluetooth(R) is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth(R) devices (e.g. mobile phone) wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range. One advantage of Bluetooth(R), in addition to the wide availability of Bluetooth(R) devices, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth(R) devices to a Bluetooth(R) network (ad-hoc network). The high data security (128-bit encoding) and the limited radius (approx. 10 m) of such a Bluetooth(R) network is what makes the use of Bluetooth(R) in the vehicle interesting.
The COMAND controller unit can integrate the latest-generation mobile phones via the Bluetooth(R) interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) into the vehicle hierarchy. If a mobile phone is not authorized with the COMAND controller unit via Bluetooth(R), then a search can be performed for Bluetooth compatible devices via the Audio/COMAND control panel and the Audio/COMAND display. If Bluetooth(R) devices were found, the user is notified of all the Bluetooth(R) devices listed in terms of trustworthiness ("trust" or "untrust"). The user can then authorize available Bluetooth(R) devices (log on), interrupt connections to trustworthy Bluetooth(R) devices or deauthorize Bluetooth(R) devices.
