Establishing a telephone connection - accepting a call
The mobile phone receives a call signal via the antenna of the mobile phone (basic telephony) or via the multifunction antenna (A28/11) (with code (386) Comfort telephony). The call is shown on the display of the mobile phone and at the same time this information is transmitted to the "audio equipment".
In vehicles without code (810) Sound system), the ring tone is output directly by the audio equipment over the speaker system. In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio equipment transmits the ring tone as a signal via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), which outputs the ring tone over the speaker system.
At the same time, the audio source of the audio equipment is muted. The caller identification is shown by the audio equipment via the Audio/COMAND display.
Additionally, the caller identification is displayed on the screen of the mobile phone and on the display of the instrument cluster.
Incoming telephone calls are signaled acoustically and visually on the display of the Audio/COMAND display.
The telephone call can be accepted via the following options:
- Telephone buttons on the audio equipment
- Audio/COMAND control panel
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer, with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)

The voice input takes place over the hands-free system microphone (A67b1). The voice output takes place over the speaker system installed in the vehicle.
Private mode (with code (386) Comfort telephony)
Private mode (no voice output over the speakers installed in the vehicle) is activated, when the mobile phone is removed from the cradle during the telephone call and is thus separated from the audio equipment.
The phone call is retained on the mobile phone and can be continued on this.
It is also possible to continue an existing phone call in hands-free mode by inserting the mobile phone back into the cradle.
If the mobile phone is operated via Bluetooth, then a new telephone call is established in "private mode", if dialing takes place via the keys on the mobile phone.
Ending, aborting, or rejecting a call
The user can terminate the telephone call or reject an incoming call at any time. The user has the following options for terminating or rejecting the connection:

Bluetooth
Using Bluetooth, it is possible to connect modern communication devices, such as PDAs or laptops, to the phone system quickly and easily. Bluetooth is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth devices wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range. One advantage of Bluetooth, next to the availability of Bluetooth devices that is already quite wide today, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth devices to a Bluetooth network (ad-hoc network).
The data security (128-bit encoding) and the limited radius (approx. 10 m) of such a network is what makes the use of Bluetooth in the vehicle interesting.
Connecting Bluetooth devices:
You can access the list of Bluetooth devices by selecting the following menus on the display of the audio equipment:
- System
- System settings
- Bluetooth
When the "Bluetooth device list" menu item is selected, a list of the already recognized Bluetooth devices is displayed. This is where you can select and authorize the desired Bluetooth device. If the required Bluetooth device is not included in the list, you can search for further Bluetooth-compatible units via the "Update" menu item.
