General
The following components are available in combination with the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) for operation of the audio system:
- Function keys of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) or right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
- Hands-free system microphone (A67b1) for the voice control system (VCS [SBS])

As of 1.6.2010 the corresponding information will be shown on the Audio/COMAND display during the operation of climate control functions, whereby the function bar is concealed.

The control description comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Base function, audio
^ Base function, video
^ Navigation base function (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
^ Basic telephony function
^ System settings

Base function, audio
If the audio base function is activated, the audio application last performed is started. To start a different audio application, it is necessary to return to the menu bar and select the "Audio" menu item. The following audio sources can be selected via the "Audio" menu item:
^ Radio (FM/AM)
^ Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) radio (with code (537) Digital radio)
^ Satellite Digital Audio Radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio)
^ DVD/CD audio
^ MP3 (on DVD/CD)
^ Memory card
^ Music register
^ Media interface (with code (518) Media interface)
^ AUX

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Radio (FM/AM)
If the "Radio" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- The current stations and the numbers of their memory locations (station name with the radio data system (RDS))
- Cursor for selecting station

Selection or settings using the function bar
- "Radio": "Station list", "Frequency entry", "Frequency fix", "Traffic Announcement (TA)"
- "Memory": "Auto memory for automatic search" and saving of the 10 stations with the best reception (button assignment from 1 to 0)
- "Info": station name, information on the current station/track and news
- "FM": "FM", "SW", "MW", "LW")
- "Tone": "Treble", "Bass", "Bal/Fad", "Surround sound" (with code (810) Sound system)

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

DAB radio (with code (537) Digital radio)
If the "DAB radio" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- The ensemble (DAB package for a region)
- The current stations and the numbers of their memory locations
- Cursor for selecting station

Selection or settings using the function bar
- "DAB": "Available subprograms", "List of stations", "Save stations"
- "Station fix": No switch from DAB to FM station
- "Memory": "List of stored stations", "Auto memory" for automatic search and saving of the 10 stations with the best reception (button assignment from 1 to 0)
- "Ensemble": Selection of ensemble (DAB package)
- "Tone": "Treble", "Bass", "Bal/Fad", "Surround sound" (with code (810) Sound system)

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio)
If the "Sat Radio" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- The category, the stations which can currently be received and the number of their memory locations
- Cursor for selecting station

- "Sat radio": "Available subprograms", "Station list", "Save stations"
- "Presets": "List of stored stations", "Auto memory" for automatic search and saving of the 10 stations with the best reception (button assignment from 1 to 0)
- "Category": Selection of program category
- "Info": Display of additional information
- "Tone": "Treble", "Bass", "Bal/Fad", "Surround sound" (with code (810) Sound system)

DVD/CD audio
If the "DVD/CD audio" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.
The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- Number of titles on DVD/CD
- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist (if available on DVD/CD)

The following selections can be made in the "DVD/CD audio" menu item:
^ Selection or settings via the function bar "DVD audio"
^ Title selection using skip function
^ Fast forward/rewind

- "DVD" or "CD": "Normal track sequence", "Track mix", "TA", "Gracenote Media Database", "Active source for rear", "Rear off"

- "Media" (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)): "CD/DVD", "Memory card" or "Music Register"
- "Changer" (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or with code (528) COMAND with DVD changer): "1 to 6 Changer", "7 Memory card" or "8 Music Register"
- "Tone": "Treble", "Bass", "Bal/Fad", "Surround sound" (with code (810) Sound system)

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Title selection using skip function
The desired track is played via "HARDKEYS" or by means of corresponding actuation of the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Fast forward/rewind
The playback position can be changed by means of corresponding actuation of the Audio/COMAND control panel.

MP3 (on DVD/CD)
If the "MP3" menu item is activated, the default screen appears. The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- Number of tracks in directory
- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist (if available on DVD/CD)

Memory card
If the "Memory card" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.

If the "Music Register" menu item is activated, the default screen appears.

- Current track with elapsed play time
- Artist

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Media interface (with code (518) Media interface)
If the "Audio" menu item and the "UCI" function are activated, the default screen appears.
The following is shown in the Audio/COMAND display:
- "Play lists"
- "Artists"
- "Albums"
- "Genres" or "Audio books"

Selection or connection possibilities:
- "iPods": Are connected to the "iPod" connector.
- "USB devices": Are connected to the universal serial bus (USB) socket.
- "AUX devices": Are connected to the AUX jack.

- "Media interface": "Normal track sequence", "Track mix", "Categories mix", "TA", "'Active source for rear", "Rear off"
- "Music": "Current track list", "Playback list", "Artists", "Albums", "Track", "Podcasts", "Type of music", "Composers"

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

AUX
If the "Audio" menu item and the "AUX" function are activated, the default screen appears. The following is shown in the Audio/ COMAND display:
- "Aux": Activate or deactivate "TA"
- "Volume": "Standard" or "Boost" (as of 1.6.2010, selecting "Boost" raises the input level)
- "Tone": "Treble", "Bass", "Surround sound" (with code (810) Sound system)

Base function, video
If the "Video" base function is activated, the video application last performed is started. To start a different video application, it is necessary to return to the menu bar and select the "Video" menu item. The following video sources can be selected via the "Video" menu item:
- "TV"
- "Video DVD"
- "Aux" (if accessories and configuration are present)

If, for example, the "TV", "DVD Video" or "Aux" menu item is activated, the corresponding default screen appears in the Audio/ COMAND display and the corresponding TV or video image is shown.

Navigation base function (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer)
If the "Navi" navigation base function is activated, then the default screen appears with the following submenus:
- "Mode": "Short route", "Dynamic route", "Eco route" (as of 1.6.2010), "Fast route", "Avoid freeway", "Avoid tunnels", "Avoid ferries", "Avoid car trains", "Avoid roads requiring toll stickers"
- "Map alignment": "Northerly orientation", "Driving direction", "Bird's eye view", "3-D map" (as of 1.6.2010)
- "Special symbols on map": "Standard symbols", "Personal symbols", "No symbols
- "Text information on map": "Arrival time/distance", "Current road", "Geographic coordinates", "None"
- "Topographical map"
- "Freeway information"
- "Automatically read TMC messages aloud" (Traffic Message Channel (TMC))
- "Audio reduction"
- "Avoid area": "Avoid new area", "City name", "Empty"

Selection or settings via function bar:
- "Guide": "Back", "Previous", "Next", "Details", "Start"
- "TMC": "TMC symbol information", list of TMC traffic messages
- "Route" (only during navigation): "Traffic jam ahead", "Alternative route", "Destination information", "Route browser"
- "Position": "Store vehicle position", "Vehicle position on map", "Destination on map", "Stopover on map"
- "Clock" symbol (only during navigation): Repeat the last route recommendation
- "Goal": "Continue/abort navigation", "From memory", "From last destinations", "From points of interest", "Via map", "Stopover", "Save destination"

The following navigation functions can be selected using the "Navi" menu item:
^ Destination entry
^ Entry of POIs via map display
^ Detail display of TMC messages
^ Route information
^ Positions (current vehicle position, target position)

Destination entry
The destination is entered via the "Destination" menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- "Abort navigation": Navigation is interrupted. The "Continue destination-oriented navigation" menu item appears
- "Address entry": Entering a destination address
- "From memory": Calling up a destination address from the "Destinations" memory
- "From last destinations": Calling up a destination address from "Last destinations" memory (contains last 20 destinations)
- "From points of interest": Calling up a point of interest from the POI list
- "Via map": Entering a destination by marking on the map
- "Stopover": Specifying a stopover (via destination)
- "Save destination": Saving an address entered in the navigation system

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Entry of POIs via map display
Entry of points of interest using the map display (2-D or 3-D) is possible with the "Guide" menu item. The default screen appears. Selections and settings are made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Detail display of TMC messages
The "TMC" menu item provides a detailed display of TMC messages. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- "TCM symbol information": "Back", "Previous", "Next", "Details"
- List of all traffic messages on the route

The TMC messages can be output as a list or displayed on the map. If navigation is not active when the "TMC" menu item is activated, a list of all available traffic messages is then shown.

Route information
Display of route information and options (arrival time, distance, view route on map (route browser)) is performed via the "Route" menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- "Traffic jam ahead": Information on disruptions to traffic on the route
- "Alternative route": An alternative to the existing route calculation is created
- "Route browser": Arrival time, distance, destination address

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Positions (current vehicle position, target position)
The current vehicle position can be displayed and saved or the target position displayed with the "Position" menu item. The default screen appears.

Selection or settings
- "Save position": Current vehicle position is saved as a memory point
- "Vehicle position on map": Shows the current vehicle position on the map
- "Destination on map": Shows the position of the destination on the map
- "Stopover on map": Shows the position of the stopover on the map

Selections and settings can be made with the Audio/COMAND control panel.

Basic telephony function
If the basic telephony ("TEL") function is activated, the following selection options or settings are shown:
- "Telephone": "Bluetooth telephone", "Import contacts", "Delete contacts"
- "SMS": List of the received Short Message Service (SMS) messages (managing received messages)
- "Call lists": "Incoming", "Dialed"

A connection can be made as follows:
- Dialing using the keypad on the mobile phone
- By selecting phone book entries via the left multifunction steering wheel button group or right multifunction steering wheel button group or the voice control system (VCS [SBS])
- By selecting telephone numbers from the call list

Incoming calls are signaled acoustically and shown on the Audio/ COMAND display.

- "Address book": "Address book", "Search", "New", "Delete"

System settings
The system settings are made using the "System" menu item. The following selection options or settings are shown:
- "Settings": "Display", "Reading speed", "Linguatronic", "Language", "Reversing camera", "Activate Bluetooth", "Reset"
- "Time": "Set time", "Format", "Time zone"
- "Display off"

The following system settings can be made under the "Settings" menu:
- "Display":

- Selection of the system language

- "Reversing camera": Automatically ON with reverse gear engaged
- "Activate Bluetooth"
- "Reset": All settings and data are deleted
