Component B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor) has a short circuit to positive.
Possible cause:
- B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor)
Affected functions:
- Power generation
-------------------------------------------------
Test 1: Check component B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor).
1. Check component B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor).
Important note: The sensor is ventilated by means of a bore underneath the plug.If the plug is disconnected and then plugged back in, an incorrect pressure value is briefly displayed. To ensure that the positive pressure is safely released, wait for approx. 3 min.
Check actual value B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor).
Test prerequisite
- Ignition ON
IMPORTANT NOTE: The air extractor system may not be connected to the exhaust system during the test.Status of the relevant actual values:
- B19/11 (Temperature sensor upstream of turbocharger):Warning! Communication with ECU required.
- Intake air pressure:Warning! Communication with ECU required.
- Exhaust back pressure:Warning! Communication with ECU required.
NOTE
- If the connection is unplugged at component B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor), the value is approx. 5000 hPa.
- Actual value 'Exhaust back pressure' only changes once the ignition has been switched on again.
Specified value at a temperature < 0 °C
- With the ignition on, the values for intake air pressure and exhaust back pressure may not deviate from one another by more than +/- 119 hPa.
Specified value range: 0 °C - 125 °C
- With the ignition on, the values for intake air pressure and exhaust back pressure may not deviate from one another by more than +/- 94 hPa.
Specified value at a temperature > 125 °C
- With the ignition on, the values for intake air pressure and exhaust back pressure may not deviate from one another by more than +/- 169 hPa.
Question
- Is the actual value o.k.?
YES
Check exhaust system.
Further possible causes of fault
- The fault may also be caused by a defective exhaust system component.
Further procedure
- Inspect components of exhaust system using endoscope.
- Pass images and fail images of exhaust systems are shown below.
- The catalytic converter can be inspected via the bolted connection of the oxygen sensor.
- Before removing a component of the exhaust system, check whether visual inspection can be performed with the endoscope via a connection fitting of the temperature or pressure sensor systems on the particular vehicle.
- If it is not possible to inspect the components of the exhaust system with the endoscope via the connection fittings with the components installed, the components must be removed for further inspection.
- The repair instructions and especially the tightening torques must be followed very carefully.
Communication with ECU required
NO

Test sequence
- Switch off ignition.
- Unplug connector of control module and component.
- Connect 126-pole socket box at engine wiring harness.
- Measure resistance with multimeter between socket (M.79) 79 of the 126-pole socket box tester and socket (B60x1) 3
Specified value
- Resistor< 1ohms
Question
- Is the measurement value OK?
YES
The measurement value is OK.Possible cause and remedy
- Test signal line between components N3/9 (CDI control unit) and B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor) for Open circuit.
- Replace component B60 (Exhaust back pressure sensor).
End of test
