1 Measure vertical clearance between compression ring and mounting groove in piston with a feeler gauge for the compression ring concerned; replace compression ring or piston if necessary.
The vertical clearance of the oil scraper ring cannot be measured because of its three-part structure. The oil scraper ring must be replaced along with the compression rings.
