GF91.60-P-1100RIU Passenger-Side Seat Occupied Recognition Function

GF91.60-P-1100RIU Passenger-side Seat Occupied Recognition Function
- with CODE (494) USA version

General function requirements
^ C. 15R On

Passenger-side seat occupied recognition, general
The passenger-side seat occupied recognition detects whether the front passenger seat is occupied.

The passenger-side seat occupied recognition consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for front passenger seat occupied recognition
^ Function sequence for outputting status and fault messages

Function sequence for front passenger seat occupied recognition
The front passenger seat occupied recognition and automatic child seat recognition are determined by means of the weight that is on the front passenger seat. The weight is determined using a pressure measurement by the pressure sensor (B48/4) in a seat mat filled with silicone. The force that is introduced via the seat belt is measured by the belt tension sensor (B48/3) so that weight classification corrections can be made if necessary.

These values are used to determine the applied weight by the weight sensing system control unit (WSS) (N110) and a weigh classification made. The information is sent over the interior CAN to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).

Child seats must comply with the American "FMVSS 208" specification, to be detected by the WSS control unit.

The following conditions are defined depending on the weight classification:
- Seat unoccupied:
The front passenger airbag unit, front passenger sidebag unit and front passenger emergency tensioning retractor unit are disabled

- Seat occupied:
Light weight (e.g. child seat) and seat belt fastened: The front passenger airbag unit is disabled. Person detected: The required restraint equipment is enabled.

Function sequence for outputting status and fault messages
The output of status and fault messages consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for actuating the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (E16)
^ Function sequence for outputting fault messages

Function sequence for actuating the airbag OFF indicator lamp

Automatic child seat recognition
The signal for switching the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp on or off is sent by the restraint systems control unit over the interior CAN to the lower control panel control unit (N72). It switches the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp On or Off. If a front passenger seat is recognized to be occupied, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp is switched off.

Function sequence for outputting fault messages
The status of the supplemental restraint system is sent by the restraint systems control unit over the interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then displays a corresponding message.
