Location
The sidebag sensors are located on each outer side of the crossmember under the rear box.

Task
The sidebag sensors in the event of a lateral impact record the acceleration or deceleration acting on the vehicle in a transverse direction.

The sidebag sensors are read in by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). The sidebag sensors perform a self-test. If the self-test fails four times in succession, then the defective sidebag sensor sends a signal to the restraint systems control unit.
