Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation
GF07.04-P-6050MOR Component Description For Charge Air Temperature Sensor
- refinement package
- as of model year 09
Component Identification:
Location
The temperature sensor is located at the intake manifold inlet, behind the throttle valve.
Task
The temperature sensor detects the charge air temperature and sends the corresponding voltage signal to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10). The ME-SFI [ME] control unit uses the charge air temperature and the charge air pressure downstream of the throttle valve to calculate the air mass.
The temperature sensor is also used to monitor the function of the charge air cooling system.
Design
The temperature sensor consists of an NTC resistor and a 2-pin plug connection.
Function
The electrical resistance of the NTC resistor in the temperature sensor varies according to the charge air temperature.
The motor electronics control unit applies a sensor voltage of 5 V and evaluates the signal voltage in accordance with the charge air temperature.
NTC
NTC means " Negative Temperature Coefficient", which means: C Electrical resistance falls as temperature rises (NTC thermistor).
