Proximity warning system, general
The distance warning system is an additional function of DISTRONIC. It warns the driver in the speed range of 30 to 250 km/h of moving or stationary obstacles in his lane
Proximity warning system, function sequence
The function sequence is described in the following items:
^ Activate and deactivate
^ Distance warning
^ Target distance
Activate and deactivate
Independent of the distance control of the DISTRONIC the driver can activate or deactivate distance warning separately via the DTR switch DTR (N72s9) on the center console. In the process the proximity warning system is dependent on the function of the radar.
When the proximity warning system is activated a speaker symbol lights up in the left multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1).

Distance warning
The distance warning is triggered whenever a deceleration >6 m/s2 is necessary in order to avoid a collision. The distance warning takes place by the warning lamp and DTR indicator lamp (A1e59) lighting up red in the instrument cluster. If the vehicle approaches the obstacle very quickly, then in addition an intermittent warning tone sounds.
One's own vehicle, the adjusted specified distance and the vehicle driving in front is shown with its current to one's own vehicle are shown in the left multifunction display of the instrument cluster.
The distance warning system does not perform any control functions by itself, such as braking the vehicle.
Target distance
Using the DTR distance potentiometer the specified distance to the vehicle driving in front can be adjusted in six stages between approx. 1.0 s and 2.0 s depending on speed.
At setting three and at a speed of 100 km/h, this corresponds to a target distance of around 42 m.
In the process the specified distance,, depending on one's own vehicle speed, is converted from seconds into meters and displayed in the form in the left multifunction display of the instrument cluster.
The target distance in the distance indicator matches the current vehicle speed without the driver having to adjust the DTR distance potentiometer.
The legally required minimum distance is thus always guaranteed in the setting range for the target distance.
