Short range sensors
Short range sensors cover a wide area in front of the vehicle. They are therefore particularly suitable in DISTRONIC PLUS mode for low vehicle speeds.

The short range sensors function according to the short pulse procedure and detect objects (e.g. vehicles) within a short range up to 30 m and within a detection angle up to 140°.
A precise angle can be determined within a detection angle of 80° while just the existence of objects can be detected at angles up to 140°.
The short range sensors have a detection range of 0.2 to 30 m at a resolution of 0.04 m.

Long range sensor
With its low detection angle of 16° (sharp beam bundling) the long range sensor covers just a small area in front of the vehicle, and is therefore used for detection at longer ranges of 60 to 200 m.
The detection angle is 32° in the middle distance range of 0 to 60 m and thus covers a wider area in front of the vehicle.
The total detection range of the long range sensors is 0 to 200 m.

The long range sensor operates according to the pulse Doppler principle and is capable of measuring the distance and speed of individual objects (e.g. vehicles) independently of one another.
