Y58/1 Purge control valve

Location
The switchover valve is located in the front left of the engine compartment.

Task
When purging is enabled, the switchover valve opens the purge line between the activated charcoal canister and the intake manifold. In this way, it is possible to suction off the fuel vapors from the activated charcoal canister.

In code (494) USA version, the switchover valve is also opened and closed for the leak test on the purge system.

Design
Y58/1 Purge control valve
a Connection of purge line from activated charcoal canister
b Connection of purge line to intake manifold

The switchover valve is a solenoid valve with two line connections and a 2-pin plug connection.

Function
The switchover valve is actuated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) by means of a PWM signal (pulse width modulated signal) according to the operating conditions of the engine (frequency 10 Hz).
At the same time, the passage of the purge line from the activated charcoal canister to the intake manifold (a --> b) is opened.

In the quiescent state (deenergized), the switchover valve is closed by an integrated spring.

The voltage is supplied through "circuit 87 M2".

In order to suppress pulsation noises a dashpot is located in the purge line upstream of the switchover valve.
