Location
The air shutoff valves are located in front of the RH cylinder head.

Task
The air shutoff valves free up the way for the injected air upon actuation of the air injection.
In the case of switched off air injection they prevent suctioning out of air in the outlet ducts, caused the flow of the exhaust gases.

Function
When air injection is enabled, both air shutoff valves are actuated simultaneously with vacuum from the intake manifold through the air pump switchover valve. Opening of the air shutoff valves and the injected air by the electric air pump allows flowing into the cylinder heads outlet ducts.

The integral check valves prevent flowing in of exhaust into the air shutoff valves for switched-off air injection and protection of these from soiling and thermal destruction.
