- Air recirculation switch (N22s2)
With code (494) USA version the A/C button is installed instead of the A/C, REST button. The residual engine heat utilization function is not available.
Task
The control and operating unit has the following tasks:
^ Operation of the vehicle's climate control
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Actuation of components
Operation of the vehicle's climate control
The control and operating unit enables the following operations:
- Interior temperature selection separated for the left and right side
- Air distribution separately for the left and right sides
- 9-stage blower control
- Switching the automatic air conditioning on and off
- Defrost function
- Switch refrigerant compressor (A9) on and off
- Residual engine heat utilization (without code (494) USA version)
- Recirculated air mode
- Pollutant-dependent fresh air supply via activated charcoal filter
- Heated rear window (R1) actuation
- Solar radiation-dependent temperature control and air distribution
It is operated with the following buttons:
^ OFF button
^ Temperature selector wheel
^ Blower selector wheel
^ Air distribution button
^ AUTO button
^ A/C, REST button
^ Heated rear window switch
^ Air recirculation mode switch
^ Defrosting button
OFF button
The automatic air conditioning can be switched off completely or switched back on by pressing the OFF button.
Temperature selector wheel
The specified temperature setting for the left and right sides can be set separately by turning the associated temperature selector wheel. The selected specified temperature is displayed via LEDs on the circumference of the temperature selector wheel.
Blower selector wheel
The air volume can be manually adjusted in nine stages by turning the blower selector wheel. The blower output setting is indicated by the light segment on the selector wheel.
Air distribution button
The air distribution button can be used to manually adjust the air distribution. The air distribution setting is shown in the air distribution indicator located above the button.
AUTO button
The air volume and the air distribution are regulated automatically when the AUTO button is pressed. If automatic mode is activated the LED illuminates.
A/C, REST button
Pressing the A/C REST button switches off the refrigerant compressor. All other functions are retained. The LED illuminates when the refrigerant compressor is switched on.
With circuit 15C or circuit 15R, the residual engine heat utilization system function is activated when the A/C, REST button is pressed. When the function is activated, the LED illuminates.
Rear window heater switch
The rear window heater is switched on when the rear window heater switch is pressed. The LED illuminates during operation.
Air recirculation mode switch
Briefly pressing the air recirculation mode switch for t < 1.5 s closes the fresh air and air recirculation flap to stop air entering from outside. The LED illuminates during operation.
If the switch is pressed for a longer period of t > 1.5 s, the control and operating unit transmits the "Close recirculated air" or "Open recirculated air" command via the interior CAN. The windows are then closed or opened.
With code (460) Canada version and code (494) USA version, convenience recirculation closing is not possible.
The detailed convenience recirculation closing procedure is described in the convenience feature function (KFB).
Defrosting button
Pressing the defrosting button sets the temperature to "maximum" and distributes the air flow to the defroster vents. All the other flaps are closed. The blower output is regulated to match the coolant temperature. The LED in the defrosting button illuminates.
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ AC bus
