Component Identification:

Location
The lower control panel control unit (N72) is located in the center console between the front seats.

Task
The lower control panel control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of switches and signals
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of switches and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line
Reading in of switches integrated in lower control panel control unit:
- DTR distance potentiometer (with code (219) Distronic (DTR))
- Outside rearview mirror adjustment switch
- Left/right outside mirror adjustment selection switch
- DTR switch (with code (219) Distronic (DTR))
- PTS OFF switch (with code (220) PARKTRONIC)
- ESP OFF switch (except model 230.470)
- Vario roof switch (without code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series"
- Level adjustment switch (with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC))
- Outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch (with code ( 500) Folding left/right outside mirrors)
- ABC SPORT switch (with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) except model 230.470)
- IRS OFF switch (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA))
- TS [AS] OFF switch

The signals for the following components are read in directly:
- Hazard warning flasher and CL [ZV] switch group (S6/5):
- Hazard warning system switch (S6/5s1)
- Unlock CL [ZV]' interior switch (S6/5s2)
- Lock CL [ZV] interior switch and ATA [EDW] function indicator (S6/5s3)

On model 230.470 the following components are located on the lower control panel control unit, their signals however are read-in by the AMG DRIVE UNIT control unit (N145):
- AMG DRIVE UNIT transmission mode adjustment rotary switch
- AMG DRIVE UNIT ESP Sport OFF button
- AMG DRIVE UNIT suspension button
- AMG DRIVE UNIT button

On model 230.4 with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" the following components are located on the lower control panel control unit, their signals are read-in however by the AMG Drive Unit control unit:
- Standard (M1)/Sport (M2) manual transmission switch
- Rear spoiler button

Interior CAN
The signals are read-in by the lower control panel control unit over the interior CAN.
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Interior CAN

Direct line
The lower control panel control unit directly actuates the symbol illumination (circuit 58d) for everything installed on it and the following components:
- Transmission mode switch (S16/5)
- Hazard warning flasher and CL [ZV] switch group

The lower control panel control unit directly actuates the function illumination for everything installed on it and the following components:
- Automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (E16) (without code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" or with code (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series" and code (494) USA version)
- Light-emitting diode for ATA [EDW] (S6/5e1)

Interior CAN
The signals are sent by the lower control panel control unit over the interior CAN.
